That does suck. Can you push the police more, explaining what they cost to replace, when & if you can even find them? You know if one of their own had a vette and this happen, they would pursue it very aggressively.
I agree here........make certain you contact the Police directly, and request to speak with an officer. Most of those shopping centers have decent surveillance, however, most of thee systems are digital and only hold images for a defined period, usually under 30 days. After that, they are gone. Explain the cost to replace these........
Also, contact the store manager at the grocery store. Give him/her the exact time and date of the theft. Request they reveiw the surveillance and also request that they burn a copy for the police.......this way, it is not lost.
What a jerk also..........you know, I hate to say this, but is sounds like someone who owns a vette did this or has a good friend with one.
What reason would any other idiot have to take them.....? Maybe to sell them? We need to check Carlisle for you this year, especially vendors from your area!

The windows were down due to the 85 degree heat from yesterday, I didn't think it would be a problem because I had only planned on being like 10mins in the store
Not meaning to add insult to injury but in this day and age leaving your windows down is pretty much an open invitation for thieves, even for only one minutes. You can not leave anything open or unlocked anymore.
The video surveillance is supposedly to deter crime and hopefully allow apprehension of those committing one. That's all for nothing if the cops won't even go talk to the store owner.
In some (all?) states the severity of the offense is tied to the value of the loss. If they took a couple CD's from your car I can understand the cops not bothering. But you have lost something of considerable value which might raise the offense to something more serious.
I would respectfully contact the police, explain the monetary amount, tell them the store DOES have video which they will only share with the cops, and try to convince them to follow up. Do you know anybody on the police force who can help from "inside"?
Also - I agree with the previous suggestion about giving the store manager the time and date of the incident and ask them to hold that tape.
Yes I take my vette pretty much everywhere, for the last week it has been on DD duty since my Regal has been in the shop. I'm not overly worried about door dings because my paint is pretty bad anyway.

Sorry about you loss......But, talk about an invitation to steal them!!! How long does it take you to take off a top??
FWIW -- there's a set of mirrored tops for sale now in the boston area for $600. To get the cops max attention, i'd use the $$$ of a NEW set...........
Hell $600 is more than some POS cars that get stolen......
Seriously...this does work. I found my stolen bike after a year and a half...got it back too. I was just looking periodically at craigslist knowing that if someone posted the details to it I could ID it...Police report is a must.
I spoke with my insurance company today, I should be getting a check to cover a new set soon...the cops really have no interest in checking out the tapes, since they are severely under staffed (my fiance' is trying to get onto their force), if it isn't an emergency then its not a big deal "thats what insurance is for"....
Dear God Im glad your Vette was ok though. T-Tops are a bad loss but a whole car is worse. Just trying to put a little optimism into your life.
Not to 'steal' (no pun intended) your post but I had my Sub and Amp stolen out of my DD Geo Metro about a week ago. I was so *&%(% off!
But it could always be worse.
Peoples morals and respect for others gone down the tubes Kyle Busch is a perfect example of that smashing that trophy after he won that race F'n Jackass
Who ever Kyle Busch is, the sanctioning body for his series should impose a huge fine/suspension. That is just being a douche bag, but if its NASCAR, that was in the script.

I agree he should get some kind of fine or some thing.
1st video is of Sam Bass the guy that put all his work on the guitar which is worth 25 to 30 thousand Bucks
In the 1st video where Sam Bass is telling all the drivers how much those guitars means to him it's funny seeing Kyle front row looking like he's off in space day dreaming as Sam is talking jeez what a duech

I walk into Giant Eagle this afternoon to do a quick grocery stop, come out 20mins later and my mirrored glass t-tops are gone....I couldn't believe it, so I made a police report and will call to make a claim tomorrow, this sucks........
Unless you have the body colored set also you better pray for dry weather or keep it in the garage, it sucks that the law wont do anything for you, what an 'effin attitude to tell you that is what insurance is for, protect and serve HAH, intimidate and harass is more like it. Sounds more like N.Y. then Ohio, sorry for your loss. Peace,,,Moosie
So,all of you guys take your vettes to the grocery store ?? and before you answer yes ,you are willing to put up with door dings at the least???
sooner or later S*#@T happens!
that is the last place i would leave it parked!! unfortunately there are too many Aholes out there that would like to hurt what is precious to you.
That sucks Big time, I gotta ask did you roll up the windows and lock the doors? I am not trying to add insult to injury at all. Just trying to figure out how they got to the latches. If you have classic car insurance they should take car of you
In post #19 he said he left the windows down due to 85 degree heat and figured to only be gone 10 minutes. Still, somebody was lurking, and must have ballz of brass to just go up take them off and drive away!

I know the cops are frequently understaffed in many cities but an attitude like that is amazing. If I were a thief I know what city I would move to!

The cops ain't gonna do dick. They have no vested interest in your mishap. They need to give out tickets to generate department revenue. There's no revenue associated with your plight.
