Good news, the insurance adjuster stopped by on Monday. I had to leave before he was done, but he left paperwork stating that I should receive something like $1300 to replace the tops! So hopefully that check will be in the mail soon!!
The cops ain't gonna do dick. They have no vested interest in your mishap. They need to give out tickets to generate department revenue. There's no revenue associated with your plight.
tickets do not generate revenue for law enforcement. I would again suggest to speak with a an officer. I work theft cases all the tiem, for a lot less, and don't mind collecting a video for evidence. Depending on your state law it may count as a burglary. If it does, then it is felony. The interest for law enforcment on this, is if they find who did it there is a good chance they will solve many crimes at once. Don't just talk with a person at the counter, contact an officer who has the report. Getting the tape should be simple for them, and staffing is not an excuse to not take at least that action.
A police report is needed by insurance though, so give them the number and you get paid back. Many people only want that, and don't want to go through the hassle of going to court and everything else. If you push the police to check it, and if by chance they solve it, then you also have to go to court and give the best chance for a conviction. You may also have a problem since you would have your t-tops back, and a check from your insurance company. That would have to be taken care of.
