Default Insurance Cards

Do your insurance cards show an effective date and expiration date or just the effective date?

Mine show only the effective date and a statement "not good for more than one year from effective date".

I'm being told that it should have the expiration date too?

I've never had an insurance card that didn't show the expiration...

In PA, the vehicle registration renewal forms ask for effective and expiration dates on the form, all our cards have this...........................B

Ask a local cop. they are the ones giving the tickets, if it's not right. No one else really cares.

This one date only is on my classic insurance cards. My regular insurance cards do show both dates. So the question is really pertaining to classic or collectable insurance cards.

Load: I do live in PA and having a antique vehicle registered in the state is permanent, therefore no reason to fill out the re-registration each year. Thus no need to provide a new proof of insurance cards each year as well.

Default Does it really matter?

The cops are pretty smart, they can figure a year from the date on the card.
Thanks Bill

It must depend on the company. I have American Classic and they list both dates.

Doesn't work if you are paying your insurance every six months.

I was with State Farm for 25 years until I found out what they didn't cover. Check and make sure you are ok with their exclusions. Ask them if you have a $400 radar detector if they will cover it against theft.

That is only one example.

Hi WB,
My J.C. Taylor card shows an effective date and expiration date.
I see Taylor is in Upper Darby, PA. Is that near you?
I'm beginning to think about Carlisle.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,
Spoke to the insurance company today and they are supplying me with cards showing both dates for all my classic and antique cars. Sounded like a state by state requirement.

UD is about an hour south and I looking forward to Carlisle too!

Thanks for info on the cards!

Standardized years ago, cards are supposed to show an inception and an expiration, as well as the companies State code. Apparently too many management systems were printing non compliant cards.

Kentucky has finally joined the information age and allowed both the clerks office and the officer see your insurance coverage making the card obsolete except for the first 30 days or so after a lapse.

Unfortunately, no Carlisle for me this year. Sis-in-law is getting married that weekend. Already have my room reservations for next year though!
