Wondering if anybody can comment on any experiences they have had buying or looking at Vettes at Mershons. How accurate are they in their descriptions?Any negative comments can be sent by PM. Thanks Jim
I have dealt with them in the past. The car I bought was not quite as promised. I was that the car ran great and there would be no problems or surprises. The carb was missing all of the choke hardware and the carb needed rebuilt. I replaced the timing chain, rebuilt the distributer (had a poor mans electronic ignition installed), replaced the vac advance, and replaced plugs and wires. I could not time the car since the dist. would not advance and the car ran terrible. I also replaced the rear end third member seal but that was expected from non-usage of the car. They told me their mechanic would go over the car before delivery and everything would be right. I called them and told them to fire the mechanic if that is the best he could do. These are minor issues to me and I love the car but it would most likely be better to look at the car in person. I didn't feel like making the trip so I took a chance with them. I would not buy again from them with out looking at the car in person.

I have never purchased from them but in the past I have spoke with some of their sales rep's....never got a straight answer and I thought they were always sarcastic in response to my query's. I do know other's that have purchased from them....none of them will purchase from them again. Their price's alway's are way over market prices...even for a dealer. JMO
I taught an advanced How To Buy a Corvette class with Dan Mershon at Bloomington Gold a couple times. While I have not purchased from him, I found him to be an honest, straight shooter. He also impressed me as someone who was sincerely interested in doing the right thing when possible.
I would point out that he is a car dealer and some people expect car dealers not to be able to make a living, and that they are all bad people.
I would also point out that the comment "most of the comments are negative" could be because people rarely post positive comments, here or anywhere else (unless they are a supporting vendor). Negative seems to be so much more fun.
Finally, people who nitpick over cars they didnt bother to go see themselves get what they asked for, I'm sorry. ANY car purchased from ANY source, dealer or private, must be inspected by the buyer. If not, he needs to be quiet.
Put me down as a vote on the positive for Dan, but you may have made your mind up already.
I found the car I'd been looking for about 16-17 years there. Never seen another since and glade I bought it. It was all as advertised (CORRECT) , but like most used cars , it need all the dozen of small issues addressed. Adjustments and leaks.
I guess what I'm getting at is . If you find a very rare car , don't let get away because of the opinions of some dissatisfied customers. There are ALWAYS two sides to every story. You need to step up to plate and MAKE your own investment choices and not let others do that for you. Know WHAT you want and are doing before you buy, God gave you a brain too ....use it. If you SNOOZE ...then in the car hobby ..its the next story .of "man that the one that got away" I wish I'd got it.....don't be that next story. Millon of them.
Mershon did right by me , I'm more glade than ever I traded cars with them. 18 years later

I agree with Steve on the principle of buying. Based on experience, dont buy a 40+ year old car and expect a turn key trouble free
machine. You really have to be able to turn a wrench and enjoy
doing so if you want one of these machines.
Always find a NCRS pro to look at the car on the pre inspection
and pay the 100-200 dollars.
We bought our Vette from them about two months ago. After visiting with them on the phone about a particular Vette they had, I decided to fly there and take a closer look. I'm glad I did because it didn't turn out to be the Vette I wanted. In fact it was kind of ratty. However, I started looking at the other Vettes they had and found one I liked. After dealing with them about it (they came down some from their asking price), we ended up buying it.
One thing I will say is they didn't have time (we wanted the car right away) to fix a few minor issues that were wrong with the car so they sent me a check in the mail to pay a local mechanic to fix the problems. Merhsons was pretty straight up and followed through on their word AFTER the car had already left their premises.
All in all, I'd say I'm pretty pleased with the way they treated us.
One point I would make is the sales rep told me 3/4ths of his internet sales are made by people who DO NOT come to look at the car in person. I was shocked by that becasue if I'm going to buy a car, I'm certainly going to check it out in person. No way would I ever buy a car without taking a first hand look at it in person.
