Default Hooker Side Headers/Pipes

I got a 1978 Corvette L48 two months ago. I was wondering if anybody could tell me if buying this kit for it is a good idea>> http://www.corvettesouth.com/corvett...sh-323035.html
I just wanna know if I'm gonna get screwed if I buy it.

I have hookers on my 77 and love them. I think you can do better on the price. For me, the first corvette I saw up close had sidepipes, and since then I've always wanted one with them on it.

Shop around.

I will do that same kit to your door for 1510.00 w/the mufflers(glasspacks). If you want the reverse flow mufflers, then add 30 bucks. These are in stock, and ship the same day.
That saves you over 200.00 bucks.I shopped around for you!

I got mine for 1200.00 a couple of years ago,,,,I have the ceramic coated ones,,,,I dont know what black chrome is that they describe.

I dont regret having them in the least bit,,,,just this Sat I got two compliments on how they sounded "grinning"

Bear in mind that getting a floor jack under the car or putting it on a two post lift could be tricky and you run the risk of damaging the pipe. If you are careful and watch what you are doing you will be fine.

Other benefits are less heat under the floor and less under the hood heat..

Big disadvantage is burning your ankle on the pipe when you get out of the car...it takes just a bump on the pipe and you have a welt the size of a silver dollar and then when it heals it takes about a year for it to completely go away and clear up. If you wear shorts when in your vettie be sure to pull your socks up higher on the left leg and on the right leg of your passenger. I have a burn healing right now,,,I forgot and burnt my leg about 3 weeks ago,,,not the first time and not the last time either.

I am in the process of testing the sidepipe therory. If I decide that I like the patriots that I have installed then I will be installing Hookers in the near future. Be sure you want to be "outside the box" before installing them because they are an instant magnet to the purist "not original' comments.

Chrome rusts, badly! Get the Jet Hot coated ones direct from Jet Hot (the Hooker coating sucks as well). JH offers a forum discount and you are looking at about $1150 for headers and pipes. Then get the mufflers of your choice. Personally, I like the STS baffles. I think the Hooker mufflers are of the same quality as their chrome.

I have heard some of the owners saying that with shields you dont get burned.. and just about every photo of the side pipes show them with shields ...sooo... ok ..do they burn or not?

Side pipe heat shields will keep you and your family from getting a serious leg burn. To describe how hot they get, about as hot as hot toast, hot but not enough to burn. There are several on the market so shop around for the ones you like.

Now I have had chrome side pipes and they do rust in the joints. I now have hooker stainless steel on the vette for two years now and love them (no rust). They do get a little gold looking on the header part but do clean up with a good chrome/aluminum cleaner. Also heat shields made of chrome plated steel will rust and discolor quickly unless you don't drive your car and keep it garaged.

Think Stainless steel................

I totally agree with Bangkok Dean.
Do get the shields they work. I got mine from steelshields:
http://www.steelshields.com/
They do get hot but not as hot as the sidepipes as some friends of mine fouond out when we running the engine(blown 496) to test it out.
SOme of them still have the scars from 6 months ago.
But with the shields no problem getting in and out of the car, I do drive it every weekend and with shorts on.

Definitely get these if you have the money...included in that is the cost of those shields. They are a must have. It's amazing how fast you forget about thoe pipes being there. I took all the skin off my lower calf in an instant, fortunately no scar. I wouldn't leave home without them, the sidepipes or the shields. definitely Bad A$$!

I've had the Hooker Super Comp's ceramic coated side pipes for about 16 months and have the Hooker Tattoo's to prove it.... I just prefer the look of the bare pipes and do not care for the look of the shields. The shielded Hookers still look sick as hell, I just like them without shields - and I pay for it!!!

Shields or no shields, you will never regret gettin Hooker side pipes!
