Calyx Manifold Dressing
Does anyone know if I can use this on my 81 headers? They're stock but I'm not sure if they're cast iron or what not. Anybody ever used this before?

How long does it last? Is it very expensive per application? How many applications do you get out of a single container?

Did mine 3 years ago and still looks fine without further touch up. I do however only put about 2500 mi/year on my car. Even used it on the master cylinder with good results. It took about 1/3 of a small container of it.

The product comes in a 3 oz. jar, pretty small. Not sure how many applications you can get out of it but one container is enough for a set of headers. Here's a pic
Also can anyone confirm that this is stainless steel? If not any ideas what it is? Stock headers on an 81.
Thanks!

IF your cast iron manifolds are clean and free of any dirt or oil (you can wire-brush off the loose rust/scale, Calyx will work pretty well for a few months. If there is oil on the part, the Calyx will flake off with any touch/rubbing at all, once it cures from the header heat. If you don't want to remove the manifolds, Calyx is a viable option. It is easy to do with a very stiff bristle brush and if you allow for a sore back from bending over that much. If you remove the manifolds, wire-brushing or bead blasting, using tack rag to get loose stuff off, then professional ceramic coating or shooting with Seymour Cast-Blast ceramic paint will give you the long-term good, cast iron looks that you are after.

What are those tiny holes in your vacuum tube going to the heat riser actuator ? Bleed off ?

I think I remember putting a magnet to the AIR part of the manifold but don't remember if I tried the header part. Your header part looks pretty rusty so maybe its not stainless or its not rust free stainless. Can you weld stainless to other metals ?

However I applied calyx on my master cylinder. It only took about 10% of the container, maybe less. Still waiting for more responses on the headers. Here are some pics of before and after:

Calyx is strictly for cast iron ONLY.
Your headers are made of steel. Get them ceramic coated or paint them with POR high temp paint (not the POR manifold paint).
Jethot does good ceramic coating, but there should be plenty of local places that will do a good job.
