Well it feels like a long time but, I finally bought my Uncles Vett. With thanks to Dennis Tracy of Tracy Performance in Roseville Mi.. (He not only did the appraisal but spent all the time I wanted to answer questions.) The appraisal was for $9,000 and that is what I payed. There is more issues than I thought, but not too many to stop me. The rear brakes are locked up so I have some work to do to get it home. As I work on it, I will post as many pics as I can. I will also be asking a lot of stupid questions. I cant wait to get started.http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/rofl.gif
$9,000 is a steal for that car.
Good luck with it and welcome to the forum.
A very good price for that car. Looks very solid. Yes, some things to do but we have all been down that road. You will have fun doing the work and at the far end will have a Corvette that people will drool over. Enjoy!
It was hit in the right front.(not a good repair).
Front bumper is twisted and spoiler is missing.
Rt. head light assembly is not correct? May be out of a 69(they are not the same)
There is a 3" crack in the rt. ft. finder.
Hood does not line up?
Paint.
All the chrome is pitted.
The four finders are showing the bonding strips.
The engine will not turn with a wrench. I am soaking the cylinders with Breakaway but plan on doing a rebuild.
Rt. side mirror is incorrect.
Ignition system is incorrect.
Windshield washer bottle is missing.
Smog system is missing.
All most all vacuum hoses are incorrect.
Complete chassis rebuild(front and rear).
Needs all body mounts.
Break system, fuel system and power steering.
It is from my father(no bidding).
As Im new to corvettes (had my '73 for 3 weeks), I was very interested in this "whats it worth" thread. Looking at the list of work that need to be done, as listed above by OP, what do you estimate it would cost to have this work done? I was under the impression that paint alone was over $10k?
I believe you paid a price that will allow you to put some $$ in the car and still have it make sense.
Please keep the questions, updates, and pictures coming.
GOOD LUCK!
Regards,
Alan
In the end you can have a car you'll really be proud of and hopefully won't be in it for more than it's worth.
I am in the process of making a list of what needs to be done
and what I want to do.
I will number them form most to least important. I than will try
to make a list of parts and prices.
This is not going to be a frame off show job.
Clean the frame than use Pro 15 or a similar product.
Rebuild front and rear suspension.
Rebuild breaking system.
Rebuild engine and whatever else for the drive train.
Whatever else I run into.
Hopefully drive it and work on the rest of the list.
Paint and body during the winter.
Ooo, gunmetal interior, cool - you don't see too many like that.

I don't think so, when I was looking for my Corvette I saw a pretty nice 69 427 4speed asking 15000 and it had been for sale for a while.
Not in todays economy...it's a buyers market if the seller is lucky enough to find a buyer.
20K will fetch a savvy shopper a lot of C3 right now,
My car being one example...
69 Convertible.adds to price....modded hurts price a little...very sound frame and bird cage...great interior...way less than 10K invested could be returned to stock pretty easy...( not that I would ) ...

Hello Priya. Just curious - was that '69 Vette you looked at in Saskatoon??? I sold my Cortez Silver '69 427/390 HP 4spd A/C coupe to a gentleman who lived in or around Saskatoon. Just sitting here remembering the good times with that car.
BTW Panicman - Nice '68 Vette.

Ok lets try this again.
It has not been out of this garage in 25 years. My Dad tells me his mechanic had it running some time around 1995 for a couple minutes.
I have been working a lot of hours latlely but I finely got the motor and trans out. Here are some pics.[IMG][/IMG]

This is what I found in the dash.[IMG][/IMG]
Next up is to pull the gas tank while I'm waiting for my parts to come in.
Starting with body mounts, gas, and brake lines. Chassis saver for the frame.

That last pic of the dash looks like a mouse nest. Check your wiring as that seems to be their snack of choice. You have a lot of work ahead of you but when you're done, you'll have yourself a very nice Vette.
