A 68 427/390 for $9,000 is a worthy project even with all that it needs. With your mechanical skills and your friends painting and body skills you will get this car back on the road and enjoy it. Keep the pics coming and good luck

Nice find I would absolutely get a new gas tank. You don't want to put a 42 year old gas tank back in the car. Quanta makes a nice repro tank and they aren't that expensive.. I would leave the tank sticker on the tank and encapsulate it in a clear plastic bag. Keep it in a low moisture environment.

It's been a long time since I posted but with work, kids, and most of my spare time on the vette I have not had time to keep up here. I have made a bit of progress so here are some pics.

It started and ran but I decided to send the carb. out. I rebuilt it myself but that did not work out so well.
I have a lot more work to do and a lot more money to spend but it's getting there.

You are doing great work...keep it up. Glad to see you removed the radiator and core support and installed your BB with the tranny attached. Make sure to reassemble the entire radiator, support and shroud as a package, on the bench or floor, with the proper seals. Much easier to get it all put together correctly, goes back in the car in a few minutes. BTW, that is one long and hefty looking boom on that hoist, allowing you to come in from the front...in the garage no less!
Lifted the body off the frame and cleaned and painted the frame with Por 15.
Replaced brake lines and gas lines with s.s. lines.
Rebuilt front suspension with new components.
replaced all steering components and sealed steering gear box.
New front brakes and brake hoses.
Rebuilt engine.
Recore radiator.
New under body insulation.
Magna Flow exhaust.
Cleaned and sealed the gas tank.
Now that it is running I will be moving to the back half of the car.
And a lot of little things here and there.
As you've learned, the purchase-price is just buying you the opportunity to spend a lot of money on the car; I think the original purchase-price of $9,000 was a fair price, but you can see how easy it would be to drop $25,000 into making this car right. Having connections can reduce that cost, but not eliminate it.
Gorgeous car, in any case, and a great back-story for onlookers at shows to hear about.
