My uncle reacently passed away and in his garage is a 1968 corvette. The car is a 427 4 speed 390 hp. coupe he was the oridgnal owner. The car has been sitting since 1984 and has 60,000 mi.. the exterior is covered in bird crap but the interior is pirfect. I do know the car was hit in the left front in the 70's but not how bad. My father is the executor and I would like to buy it at an honest price. Does anybody have an idea as to the value. I will try to take pictures and post them but I want to wash it first. If you have more questions I will try to answer them.
Hi PM,
I'd think the value depends on whether the bird crap is original or has been restored.
Not much info on the car to make even a guess.
Regards,
Alan
No way to give a good anything, without more details and pics. The engine/tranny combo makes it worth investigating for sure but until it is out in the light for a good thorough inspection it is only of value as a parts car for now.
Ok here are some pics. The antifreeze is good so I don't think the block is cracked. The frame is flaking but solid. The doors open and close smooth. The brake lines and fuel lines need to be replaced. The paint is stained from the bird crap. The wheels do not turn so I can't get the car out of the garage.

The pics don't work. Flaking on the frame may be OK or bad - need closeup pics to tell for sure, especially the trailing arm pivot/differential crossmember. The E-brake shoes are probably rusted to the back of the disks. Spray PB-Blaster through the acess holes and also down though the rotor vent holes until you can turn the rear discs a bit. Work them back and forth and eventually you will be able to roll the car.
Can't get your link to work. I got to the pics by copy/paste the url in the browser bar.
some help. Nice car, the interior looks great- I guess the car was stored well. Engine bat needs a resto, I assume the underneath & brakes, too. Probably needs a total restoration, simply from sitting. A great place to start, however. It looks like a very original car.

Alan, you are spot (pun intended) on with this one. How do we know that the bird crap has not been imported from China? With little to no information it will be a little difficult to offer a fair market value for the car. Maybe someone in your area that knows Corvettes could step up and offer a helping hand, after the car is washed of course. Good luck.

Actually, that looks like you might have a good car to restore there. Good luck with your decision and the project. Is that a 1968 color on the car? Check the plate on the inside of the drivers side door panel for build date, body and interior codes. Then consider getting yourself a Corvette Black book to help sort out what that data means. If the door code is 986 then the exterior color should be Silverstone Silver. If the interior code is 442 then the interior should be gunmetal; and so on. Looks pretty good for sitting so long. Sorry he didn't cover it from the birds.
