Then, once we do away with gasoline burning cars, we 'll get rid of plastics, lubricants(petro based), cosmetics(don't tell my wife), and the numerous other things oil is made from. We'll be wind and solar based. Until a calm, cool day with no sun, then, fire up the power plants again.
I'm all for better, but for every action, there is a reaction....
Good for him! Yes, electric motors produce higher torque on start-up. Let's see what's in an electric motor....gee, copper windings, bearings needing lubricant, lots of machined, expensive parts that wear with use(like everything else).
Finding an alternative fuel when there is plenty under our feet just doesn't make sense to me. Call me old school.

Just throwing this out there as well. The local power plant that EVERYONE in the area gets their electric from burns coal! EVERY DAY there is a freight train two miles long that rolls in to feed the power plant generators.

.........yeah, SUPER clean energy!

This is good stuff and I do see more electric cars in the future but the
only way to make them green would be with nuclear power then what
do you do with the waste. Then there is the dilemma of allowing other
countries to build nuclear plants then they can also make weapons.
And then if nobody bought oil what would happen to all those countries in the middle east that hate us and rely on oil for income. They would be back living in tents, and pissed at us even more.

The only way I could be more impressed is if he recharged his batteries using SOLAR ENERGY.

That is entirely possible, i know a few ppl that generate solar/wind energy and are off the grid completely. One person i know sells his excess back to the electric company so he gets a check instead of a bill. The real problem that could be potentially created by these technologies is the toxic volatile waste generated by the used batteries, but i'm sure someone is developing or has developed ways to recycle this byproduct.

On an interesting side note, check out the Tesla Roadster. Very cool, over 200 mi. per charge, and FAST! I saw one the other day driving around. They look very similar to a Lotus.
