What do you guys think about a 68, black interior, with the 2009 Vette color of Atomic Orange metallic.
I think it's a great looking color but I think you should consider long term. If you're building a custom and you don't keep you cars long term and you like Atomic Orange paint it. Now on the other hand if the car is otherwise stock in appearence and you will keep it "forever" make sure a few years down the road from now you'll still be in love with it.

This is really good advice. I know exactly what your talking about. Plus I have gone to lengths to keep it looking original under the hood as my engine, manifold, and heads are #'s matching. But I still really like that color!

I think you REALLY know what color to paint the car even though you REALLY like Atomic Orange.
Are "Grabber Green" and "Plum Crazy" still good colors for a '70s Mopar??? Atomic Orange is a 'bold' color....but an attractive [solid] color, none-the-less. It wouldn't look right on a Honda Civic...but on a Corvette--

I think the difference is, "Grabber Green" and "Plum Crazy" were CORRECT on the 70's Mopars, which makes them timeless. However, a 2009 Orange on a '68 Corvette is not remotely correct. It might be neat for a while, but as in many fads and cutting-edge trends, the things that look so cool the first year or 2 have a very, very short shelf life and suddenly make the car look odd and then very hard to sell.
I think you are making a good choice of painting it orange.....my opinion is a little biased though.
I kind of agree with the some of the other guys though...Atomic Orange is a great color on a C6 but on a '68 I don't know. There are plenty of oranges of that early to mid C3 era that would look great on a '68 in my opinion.
Corvette Bronze is a color I always liked but isn't often seen, is also correct for the year. Monaco orange is another one that makes a C3 jump out at you and is correct for a '69. Ontario orange is one of my all time favorites since I was a kid, and lets not forget Flame orange.
With your black interior I think Monaco orange would be a GREAT combo. I've seen a couple here in SW PA and that is a hot combo!
Ultimately its YOUR car, do what you like with it. But just make sure that if you are willing now to dump a sizable chunk of change into a paint job you'll be OK with it and not regret a passing fancy 10 yrs down the line....

Good advice guys. If I want to change the color I should at least go with a period specific color. LeMans blue, the original color, is definitely a safe bet no matter what.
If you are a purist (like some folks ), you can always paint it Ontario Orange "Firemist"...which was an available factory color. It has a gold metalflake like Atomic Orange, but is 'period correct'. {Geez...talk about minutia...; I wonder how much difference there really is between those two colors?}
P.S. Yes, I know that Ontario Orange wasn't available until 1972; but '68 did offer Bronze...which was a pretty bold color in '68.

That one's okay but this one has a lot more options and is still pretty easy to use. You can even make the wheels spin at different speeds, lower it, and change color. It even has a mid 70s with an 80s style bumper like mine. Website below: http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/wheel_visualizer.asp
