i also live in pa go with the classic tag you can still drive it a night the 4 pictures you will need are both sides front and back with the windows CLOSED it has to appear to be stock no fancy wheels or hood no crazy paint job i think that if you have side pipes on the car that should be ok to get the tag good luck i will be going for mine in the spring i hope so unless i sell it first
There is this continuing misunderstanding about whether you can drive an antique vehicle after night. HOW CAN I SAY THIS
LOUD ENOUGH ? ( YES YOU CAN IF IT HAS SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS ) I got this in writing straight from the Pa. State Police Headquarters. It was only the law before sealed beams were used. All Corvettes are legal to drive after night with an antique plate in Pa. and probably most , if not all other states.
I live in PA and they wouldn't give me CLASSIC plates because Corvettes are still in production.
So I got ANTIQUE and I do drive it at night.
But the car must be totally stock. And you must agree to keep it that way.

Where did that BS come from? My '76 was registered as a Classic without any problems. They were still making Corvettes 10 years ago!
All in all, Antique is not a bad way to go. For reasons I posted earlier, I chose Classic.

Yea that is BS. My mom had a 68 mustang restored in 1989. We had to get classic plates because it was not old enough for antique plates. To get classic plates your car must be at least 20 years old. When I got my 70 vette in 1997 it was old enough that I got antique plates. In fact my mom did not get antique plates until last year.
I just registered my C 3 Corvette in PA a few weeks ago and went through the same concerns. As one poster said, you can drive an antique car at night as long as it has proper lighting.
I check with several Notaries in PA and each one seemed to have a different interpretation of the law.
I went with the Antique Plates, and also avoid paying for a yearly inspection.

The PA law states that the car must be of collector value and out of production. I reapplied two more times, hoping to get a different person looking at the app. and still was denied....yep that is BS.
My 1971 coupe has antique tags, the only issue I had was my luggage rack, had to show this was a dealer installed option. Cops say no problem with night driving.

That sounds more like those Collector car plates. I have not seen them for a long time. I don't know if you can get them anymore. I remember seeing them on Novas and Chevelles.
Here is what it says about antique and classic plates, The only differance is how old the car is:
DEFINITION OF ANTIQUE AND CLASSIC MOTOR VEHICLES Antique Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the
current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with
manufacturer specifications.
Classic Motor Vehicle - A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current
year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer
specifications and appearance. Any classic motor vehicle registered under Section 1340 (relating to antique, classic and
collectible plates) on the effective date of the amendment to this definition which fails to qualify as a classic motor vehicle
pursuant to these provisions may retain such classic registration unless another type of registration is applied for and
issued for the vehicle.

Weird. I've had PA Classic plates on multiple Corvettes - a '72, a '71 LT- and also an '85. No issues getting that type plate for any of them. I did go with the purple antique plate on other Stingrays.

This is not PADOT law. Go to the PADOT web site and look at the actual law, before spreading rumors.

By the time you do all the research and figure out what you're going to do, get approved for the tags, and get the correct insurance, it might be easier to move to a different state!
