Default Corvette Magazine

Hey guys, I am brand new here from Baton Rouge Louisiana, I am in the process of getting a wrecked 1981 redone, it has only 20K miles on it and has front end damage. Just wondering, what is your favorite Corvette magazine? I have always wanted a Corvette and it will be ready in about 6 months. I plan to upload pics of the process. ~Randall

Welcome to the forum...
I don't read magazines written by men with a pen.
This forum is a better place to know about all generations of Corvettes.

Corvette Enthusiast does a great job supporting us here! Many members have had their cars featured including me!

In fact I just wrote 3 articles for them covering the buildup of a 555" motor for *Snowman's* C-3 also here on the Forum. Do a search and see the buildup of the car. It's going to be great.

What has become of this world?
Writing without a pen?

The computer guy asked his wife to scratch his back. So his wife started to scratch his back, right below his neck and asked him.. "Here?"

He replied.. "NO SCROLL DOWN..."

And an excellent article at that! I found it very informative especially building my first BB going into my 65. Thanks!

Randall,

Congrats on your 82. I have found Corvette Forum and Corvette Fever to be most helpful in terms of C3 info.

Default Magazines

Welcome to the forum...there is a wealth of information here for sure. I love this forum but I also love reading magazines for ideas and information that you may not get here. The I have 3 subscriptions that are:

Corvette Enthusiast (I read most of the major vette mags for a few months before making my choice on this)
Hemmings Muscle Machines--Great writing, covers many muscle cars (not much on vettes)
Car Craft--great low buck stuff, mods and such on muscle cars.

Hope this helps

Keith

Thanks for the info, I wanted an 82 for so long I thought that is what I had, it's actually an 81 (my bad) It's silver and in absolute immaculate condition other than the front end damage, the guy that had it bought it brand new and kept it stored and drove it to car shows. I'm selling my 2001 Honda Prelude which has been awesome to own and who wouldn't with a 5 speed and 200HP, I will be getting a small truck as my daily driver and drive the Vette only on perfect days, im sure know what I mean. Owning the Vette will be a dream come true for me and my wife since I will be retiring in a year (cant wait) ~Randall

Hey, good morning to you all. I take Corvette Magazine, and read it cover to cover. Would one of you be kind enough to send me Corvette Fever's subscription info. Please. Thank-you and have a great day. Welcome to the forum Mr. Golfradict, you will find a great bunch of people here, even though I do get up on the wrong side of the bed once in awhile, but I still pull my pants on the same way, LOL Gene

I also have an 81 (Silver). Each magazine has it's particular style and unfortunately none really focus on any particular years. I think they are all great. I looked at a couple issues of Corvette quarterly and just didn't get it ...seems to focus on the young rich, articles didn't appeal to me, seemed superficious, snobiish. Contrasting the others mentioned above, I couldn't decide which particular one to get so I subscribed to them all (Corvette Fever, Corvette Enthusiast, Corvette Magazine), but not Vette Mag. That was years ago. Yeah, it's probably a waste, but I am kind of like you and I've really gotten into the whole Corvette mystique and it's been a lot of fun looking forward to and reading each magazine. The thing is you gotta SUBSCRIBE. If you buy two or three off the newstand, you could have paid for a subcription. I rarely buy a magazine off the newstand for that reason.

I wouldn't agree that this forum is way better than the magazines. I think it is a great complement TO the magaziens. The magazines will give you comprehensive articles that contrast their points against historical information and their experiences. The forum is a nice up-to-date outlet for info as well.

I would agree with the others in that Corvette Fever probably has the most C3 articles, and more pertinent tech articles. Corvette Enthusiast seems to be a little more comprehensive in terms of depth or articles. One thing I like about both are their long-term project articles ...when they have them. I'm kind of tired of the typical how to rebuild your small block articles. And now I'm starting to get tired of seeing the typical vette-rod trailer queen articles.

Corvette Magazine is more slick and glossy (most adds too) and seems to bend slightly more towards newer vettes and racing articles, but they also run some C3 articles. I really like Corvette Magazine's somewhat 'in your face' honesty and writing style. IMO it's definitely a notch or two higher than the rest in terms of style, substance and overall quality. They typically include one or two corvette historic pieces (articles) per issues that the others may only do once or twice a year. I find these quite interesting. Other articles like one focusing on David Buroughs history and the factors that led to him creating the Bloomington Gold judging program is the kind of article not often run in the other mags. Also, some of the tech articles they DO run are somewhat more unusual as well ...like the comprehensive article on rebuilding power steering pumps ...different than the kind you see in the others. I am also open to C4 and C5 info so to me I don't mind those articles.

Every year I think to myself I should cut back on one, but I have a hard time choosing which it would be. They aren't that expensive to subscribe to in the overall scheme of things, so I have kept up my subscriptions.

If you REALLY want to have a reading blast, forget the new magazines, and buy a bunch of Corvette Fever magazines from the 80's off Ebay. They were a lot better back then (albiet basic) and they had the Vette Mate (of the month) and funny picture. You get all manor of C3 articles too as they were contemporary back then. If they brought back that formula from back then, I think it would really spice up the current magazine and I think a lot of Vette owners would approve! Good luck.

Mark G
