Default Need Help - 1970 Small Block Radiator Install

I had some problems removing old radiator, but not too bad. Had old radiator recored, the problem is reinstalling the recored radiator. I put all new seals on radiator support & fan shroud, now it seems impossible to install recored radiator. Any tips and suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi Ck,
I'm not sure you've described what your problems are. Have the new seals made it so the radiator won't fit back into the core support brackets? Sometimes the new seals are a bit to 'fat' and cause some interference. Is that it?
Regards,
Alan

Alan,

When I removed the old radiator I did not remove my hood or move radiator support. Now that the new fresh fat seals are in place, I cannot slide the radiator in. Do I have to remove wheels and take radiator support bolts out and rotate support or is it possible to install radiator the same way I pulled it out.

I have not had the radiator far enough in to check core support aglinment.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

Remove the hood [for better access], then loosen support parts enough to put it back together. I have done that install with new seals on the shroud, etc. and with the hood on. I would NOT do it again.

Finally got radiator installed. Thanks

New question - My fan blade clearance from fan shroud at the 3:00 position is maybe only 1/16 of an inch. What should this clearance be, any pics would be appreciated.

I would think that the 3:00 and 9:00 positions should be equal. If they are not you may be able to loosen the shroud bolts a little and move the shroud. Seems like 75% of the bolt holes on the C3's are slotted for fitment anyway. If you can't get the shroud aligned you may need to slot the holes a little.

I am not sure how big mine is. There were 2 different radiators for a small block. Here is a pic of mine.

Thanks for the pictures. How much clearance do you have at the 3:00 position?
