Default 73 Headlight assembly removal - HELP

It is all unbolted and the wiring and vacuum lines are gone. Now what do I have to do to get it out. Also the radiator, grills, spoiler and valance are out too.

Default Progress - but!

Well I finally got the passenger side assembly out this morning after I removed the center support rod. After looking at the scuffs and scratches on the cover, I sure hope it is easier when it's time for it to go back in. It looks like it might be at least a two person job and a lot of tape or padding to keep the same scratches and scuffs from reappearing then.

What type of work on your car are you doing? I had to pretty much gut the entire front end to get mine out including the bumper brackets and crossmembers. I was thinking the same thing about scratches and dings. Those will be the first assemblies to go back in. I never really paid attention because I took mine out as a whole assembly too. But, I wonder if the top covers can be put in separately like the bezels to protect the paint during install.

Wishful thinking. At the factory, the light assemblies were installed before any of the bumper junk. With nothing in the way, it was a lot easier to do.

Good luck on the install.

Well I have both out now, not too many scratches on the driver side.

I'm doing a complete frame off rebuild, so I needed to get the extra weight off before I lift the body.

It sure will make it easier to remove the front bumper cover now that they are gone. If the factory puts them in before the front bumper and brackets are mounted, I guess that means that you can access all the cover bolts with the headlights in place. Were they mounted before they dropped the body on also?

I haven't posted a lot of the rebuild pics on here but below is a link to some of them:

Hi VR,
I enjoyed looking at your pictures. I'm curious what the 4th picture on the last page is? It looks like a bit of birdcage paint was sprayed in there. Thanks!
Regards,
Alan

If its this one:

That's the #4 driver side body bolt pocket behind the rear wheel. I believe the astro ventilation drain tubes were leaking directly into it.

Hi VR,
Thanks!
I just wasn't sure where on the car's interior that was.

Can't really tell if there is glass damage there but ironoically I was checking out the corvette-restoration.com page this weekend and he shows exactly how to repair that mount location. Good luck.
