I am looking to trade my car for a car at Corvette MIkes in California. It is a Maroon 70 LT1 convertible. Supposedly a "survivor car". It looks a pretty rough in the pictures he sent me but was wondering if anyone knew anything about the car. It can be seen on their website www.corvettemike.com. Any info would be very appreciated.

$79k? Corvette Mike is 'Out to Lunch' on this one.
That price seems VERY high......Ok, LT-1's in 1970 are low numbered, and a convertible with low miles in even harder to find.......he says it is "unmolested"? Did 70 LT-1's come with smog? I did not see it there. Also, even though it has low miles, the engine orange looks a little too new for me.....have you seen it in person??
I noticed that the smog was missing also. I havnt seen the car in person. I also notice overspray in some areas. Although I havnt personally had any experience with Corvette Mike I understand that most of these dealers dont examine the cars that closely and are looking to make a big $ hit on the cars. I thought that the price was very high on the car. That has also been the opinion of most "knowledgable" Corvette people I have spoken with. I was hoping that a forum person who lived in the area may have seen it since it was mentioned in another forum thread.
I purchased a one owner '74, LS-4 coupe from Corvette Mike a number of years ago. I had the car shipped to me in Kansas City, MO. I paid a premium for the car, but it was a fully documented, numbers matching, rust-free CA car. It was exactly as described, no surprises.
From my experience, he knows what he has and describes it acurately. I would do business with him again! His reputation speaks for itself.
This LT-1 car looks nice from the pictures, original and unmolested as described. Is the $79K price worth it for you?
you can add about 2k if you can find the smog.....you really need to look at this car closely. Overspray may be present in places on original cars but again, almost 80K for this car seems way out of line......I'll bet you can find a nice 70 LT-1 for a lot less.
Sorry, but I wouldn't pay $79k for a purported 26k original mile car based on Mike's reputation alone, no matter how great it is. I would certainly check to see if it has been judged by NCRS or Bloomington, especially Bowtie (you can only do that once, so if it has been judged Bowtie already that is all for this car) Do you want a car you can drive? If the car is worth big bucks with 26K miles, you will hurt the value by running up the odometer. How do you know it's not 126k miles?
It seems like a LOT of money!
IF someone felt (or had been told) the car would in fact be invited for BOWTIE judging, and felt it would be successful in obtaining all 4 Stars, and that would make them really happy and proud, and they had the money.... why not?

Well put. I thought BOWTIE/Survivor when I read the add. Just the same, at $79K she'll have to wait until I get my bail out money.
The car has not been judged and has some areas repainted. The rest of the paint is bad and needs to be redone. They told me they can find a smog system for it. He wants to trade even up for my big block which tells me that my car is worth more. They sent me many pictures and it looks like a car that needs a full resto. I guess that is the definition of a "survivor". In speaking with them they acknowledge the price is high but we are discussing a trade. Can a car be judged a survivor if it is repainted or does it need to be all original paint? This car definitley needs new paint.

Believe me that Mike knows exactly what's right and wrong with the car. He continually has his cars NCRS and Bloomington certified to get top dollar and knows these cars as well as anyone in the business.
Also believe me that if you are working any kind of a trade, Mike is getting the better end of the deal.

Been there done that.
Mike is getting the better end of the deal (the dealers always do). Ya gotta wonder if this car is so great, why isn't he keeping it.
I dont have a 70 book to know if these numbers are correct. If anyone can tell me it would be greatly appreciated. I do have the same feeling that I am getting the dirty end of the stick but it is an interesting car. I will try to post pics he sent me and pics of my car.

Everything works as it should on this car including the clock, radio, Fiber
Optics etc. I hadn't started the car in a couple of weeks and it started
right up without hesitation. Let's try to put something together a.s.a.p.
sounds like he is in a little too much in a hurry.
