Can be debated on 78-82. Some consider all C3s to be.
I don't say that to be mean
, or because I don't like them
(I owned a new '84), or because I am a C3 elitist
. I say that because the average selling prices of the C4 series of cars is the least expensive Corvette you can buy. Now, my perception is that the C4's are a real bargain if you want to get started in Corvettes. Just be aware that if you buy a C4, you will likely not get as much for it when you sell. The opposite is true for C1's, C2's and C3's.

People obviously respect the vintage cars the most. C1s, C2s, chrome bumper C3s, then the rubber bumper cars through 1982 is a very general normal progression of "status."
The more "modern," less "vintage" looking cars obviously started in 1984. Yes, it was Car Of The Year in 1984, for good reason. In 1984. However, as you might have noticed, no one is wearing parachute pants, red vinyl Michael Jackson blazers and listening to Flock of Seagulls anymore, either.
People have less regard for the newer cars as compared to vintage cars, but tend to like the "newest" better of the bunch of new cars, right? It naturally follows then that the C6 would be next best regarded, then the C5, and last, dead last, is the C4, especially the dated versions of 1984-1989. This is not hard to figure out.
The fact is, they are great cars to drive, cheap, fun, cheap, attractive to those with Flock of Seagulls T shirts, and tremendously cheap. Bang for the Buck. They have their place as the easy, cheap entry level car or driver/beater. However, their status in the Corvette world should neither be a shock or an insult.

They are bad a$$! I will always have a C3. For me, I prefer the 68/69 vettes, but would like anything up through 1973. Take your time and find the one that is right for you!! Good Luck with your search!!
Here's a pic my 1968
