Hey all,
I'm bring my baby home that has been in my dads garage for three years. I'm trying to find a auto transporter from NJ to Jacksonville FL. It does not have to be an enclosed hauler. I have been looking around on the internet but there are to many. I thought I'd check in near to see what you all thought. any help would be great

Call around to some moving companies. If they have a short load running on that same route they can put your car in the trailer, too. It might be a lot less expensive than a regular car hauler. Determine how your car is going to be insured in case of loss; you might be able to get a rider on you classic car insurance or just buy a short term policy. Good luck.
I just sold a 78 to a guy in Mexico. His friend in Texas took care of the transport and he used Dependable Auto Movers. Another company actually picked up the car.
C.W. Howard Transport picked up the car and the guy was on time and very professional. They are out of Largo Fl. (I would bypass Dependable.)
I had to go out of state to get my vette. The trip was NY to Texas. At first i used movemycar.com and got several quotes. Gave me 5 or 6 names to research.
The cheapest was $700 with Wise Auto Transport. Nathan Hunt originally helped me. He explained how this work; they were just a broker who posted on a board for trucks. No truck picked up the req; so he expanded it to $750. The brokers will tell you it takes 5 business days max to ship your car. My wife and I were going to be in Greece when we wanted the vette to ship while we were there; a great consolation to coming home. So I email - no response, when I call, Nathan doesn't call back. SOme random dude calls back from Wise to say "since you have a specific request we can do that for $900" Note, i requested to do this 5 business days before i wanted the car to be picked up.
I tried contacted the next cheapest, but no response. So i ended up going with Bear Transports. They were another broker, but being out of the country they were very helpful. In a situation like that; it was good to have another point of contact. The price was $775.
Using that movemycar.com site, I got contacted by one company that bragged they owned their own trucks. I didn't like them because they were the most expensive and they were REALLY pushy. They called daily.
I have a lot of emails and info since I did this in early July. Just PM me if you want it!
Contact Streetside Classics in Charlotte, they do a lot of shipping and I belive they use Gauranteed Auto. I was going to ship mine to them on consignment. I think the guys came in at .50 a mile if you weren't in a big hurry
From NJ (to Florida) you should definitely get a quote from Horseless Carriage. They are topnotch and local. They have their own equipment - enclosed trailer but they travel that route a lot and their rates are competitive.
I just used AutoTransportDirect.com to ship my vette from NJ to Texas. $650 dollars, quoted and booked online. The car was delivered in less than a week, on an open trailer. Very friendly driver, Mario, who apparently does a lot NE to South deliveries.
AutoTransportDirect.com is a broker, similar to what was mentioned in a previous post. ATD got $150 on my credit card when I booked, then I paid the driver $500 cash at delivery. It would be interesting to know if the actual folks transporting the cars are just getting the cash amount.
This was the second time I have used them, and have been very happy both times.
i had mine delivered last year from green bay to memphis. it was 600.00 on a open trailer. had 2 more cars heading south. i think most in this range are all the same . broker and then they post the haul on a board and it is bid on. you get the luck of the draw who you get. one thing is how many times it will come off and be put back on for other cars. mine came off once in chicago and was the first off. not wanting to spook anybody but there is no way really knowing who the driver will be . my guy was great he called when he got it and then said he would be here the next day and called when he hit the ms bridge. i was actually waiting in the yard for him...no i wasnt excited at all
I ended up going with M2Reeves. Of course they are a broker out of Washington State. So it is up to the luck of the draw for what carrier I get. I hope evething goes well. She is getting pick up on the 12th of Nov give or take 2 days. And will be here the following week. I will finally have her home. Thanks for all your help.

ok here is some tips have the shipper when the transport arrives take pictures of the car on all sides in front of the shipper, make sure they note any dings, i would take a photo of the odometer. even a photo under the front and maybe rear end. these trucks can be low, just make sure the driver is aware that you are aware, so if there is a problem then you know when it happened, when he gets there go over real well with him. my problem is the driver showed here at dark. but he was a good driver like i am sure yours will be. it is just better to keep everybody honest the funny thing about me posting this now is my car showed up 1 year ago today oct 30 at 6pm so just short of 2 hours from now
