Hi David,
I suggest you give Jerry Rudbeck a call. He repairs old radios and I believe he can give you some advice about upgrades for sound and reception. 864-363-0947
Regards,
Alan

I had my stereo in my 72 done by Jerry and the sound was night and day with stock speakers. If your looking to keep the stock look i'd talk with him. If not others have mentioned other avenues to explore
Now its not going to compare with the 400 watt system in my Titan. But sounded much better then before i sent it out. great person to talk to also.
I'm putting a Kenwood 742/200w w/bluetooth and satellite ready CD radio in w/boston acustic frts and Kenwood 6x9 rears but no add'l amps. Hope it plays well. I got where I like satellite because of my 09 Colorado. Mine is not #'s match or anything I just wanted a good driveable car my wife and I can enjoy. Car has factory bells and whistles available then and I've kept those. Stepped the engine up a little about 375 at the flywheel--listen to the pipes and then 60/70's music.
