Your originals might still be under there. AIM shows them.

Hi KB,
I'm not sure if you were asking where they're used or not.... the aluminium wrapped tunnel insulation. Large, flat head, aluminium rivets.
Regards,
Alan

Just finished installing new insulation in my '69. Luckily all but one of my retainers were still there. If your car had insulation and retainers (pretty sure all '69s did) then the holes in the fiberglass floor pans must still be there...two per retainer. Of course, riveting new ones in means removing the interior, unless you have already done that.

Paragon makes a very nice insulation kit...one molded piece for the rear of the tunnel and LH and RH pieces for the floor/toe boards that fold up into the front of the tunnel. I used aluminum tape (paper backed) from Home Depot to cover any tears or seams. This was entirely optional on my part, as I am sure the factory never bothered with aesthetics.

hey guys..... actually, my reason for asking was that I am doing tunnel insulation and I see where the set of 'tabs' to do the floor insulation (we speak of above) appear to be the same style of 'tabs'.

I still need to purchase the floor insulation, so I figured I might 'steal' a 'tab' or two until I get farther along on my re-assembly.

That said - I used DEI floor and tunnel insulation w/adhesive back. (very good choice) and then I used a factory tunnel shield.... but the factory one is not mounted securely - it is taped into place with DEI aluminum tape (but it does not stick as well as I thought)...... so I kinda bummed about that. I sandwiched the battery cable in between the DEI and the factory shield.

ALso - I sealed the edges of the DEI with black sealant - the same stuff I used on my firewall seams. fyi... I burnished the DEI insulation by using the wooden handle of a large file. It enabled me to put some serious pressure onto the DEI insulation to not only ensure adhesion, but to form teh aluminum to teh contours of the underbody.. came out very nice.

I will post a pic in a min
