Default Engine Lift brackets?

I bought the engine lift brackets for my 71' SB and wonder where/how the rear one goes on. The front one has a bend so the lift eye is vertical when attached to the left front of the intake manifold. The rear is just a flat one with a locate tab. Does it mount on the back of the cylinder head rather than the intake manifold? Picture?
Thanks,

Gary

Gary,
On my 71 BB, the rear lift bracket bolts to the back of the passenger side cylinder head. I would think that the SB would be similar.

Hi Gary,
Just for your info.. the sb rear lift bracket is different in configuration than the bb bracket in Tom's picture. Also, it mounts to a bolt on the bell housing.
NOT very good pictures, but perhaps you can see the differences.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks Alan, I never would have guessed that it goes there. Seems kind of low to be useful. The bracket I have has the tab like yours does. It doesn't appear that the tab does anything. I thought it was some kind of anti rotation feature.

Hi Gary,
I believe the tab serves as a 'stop' for what ever type of hook/connection you use, to keep the engine from pivoting during the lift.

Alan

Alan,

Interesting picures. I would have never guessed that it would mount to the bell housing. It would not help much if you only wanted to pull the engine.

Always learning..........

I've always put mine on the intake, much easier to hook the chain to and if it's good enough for the front bracket it's good enough for this one IMHO.

That's where I would have put it but I guess we have to remember that the engine was installed before the body when GM built the car.

Hi,
Being WAY TOO FACTORY here.... my bracket HAS to REMAIN on the engine. If it's on the last intake bolt it hits the advance can on the distributor, and the next intake bolt forward has the ignition shielding bracket on it.
So back to the bell housing bolt.
Regards,
Alan

Alan71, lift bracket is on the bell housing pass side with a bent tab sb motor, you could always use a bracket on intake if you had to lift motor out. takes two minutes. but to keep it real thats where it goes

I'm actually trying to make it Factory Correct (without going overboard on cost). I have the bracket so I might as well put it where it belongs. The book "Corvette Restoration Guide" agrees that it goes on the bell. It must then get painted orange along with the top couple inches of the bell. Correct?

Hi Gary,
Yes.
I believe the only rear bracket that wasn't painted engine orange was the one for LS-6 cars since that bracket was mounted on an aluminium head.
Reagards,
Alan

While I have you 2 experts on line, what color is the clutch Z-bar? One book says it's clear Zinc plated (silver). I find it hard to believe that GM would spend that kind of $$ to plate this part.

I know what you mean about the other half. My garage is heated so I can spend all winter out there if needed.
I stopped by Richard Fortier place (ex Paragon owner) and he said it was zinc plated but he is mostly a mid-year guy. Is your part rusty? I appreciate your help. I'm not into NCRS, but I am trying to be as "correct" as I can afford to be.
