Just a quick one, should the master cylinder have 2 small viewing windows on it made of some kind of rubber?
Havent seen it on any pictures but mine has them!
They are on the side, engine side and on of them is leaking a bit, wondering if its an original part and if i should replace it with the same or swap it for one without those windows.
Post a couple of pics.
The original one don't have windows on it. I am tempted to advocate for replacing it with the original one, but your car may have an after market brake system that may need the new MC.
If the rest of the brake system is original and the MC that you have is a bolt on replacement, putting the original back on may be a good idea.
Are you referring to the cap? There are small tabs on the rubber diaphragm seal that clip into slots (windows?) in the cap to hold it in place.

No, not the cap, the side of the cylinder...
It has to small see through rubber windows half an inch in diameter engine side...
I dont think i have an aftermarket brake system, they are pretty bad and look stock to me..
Might take a pic when i get the chance and see what you guys think...
actually, here is a pic, you can see them on the side...
Any ideas what that is? Should i change it asap or am i fine for now?
It has two thin rubber plugs, you can actually push on them and they go in , a bit like the small rubber pumps you have on a chainsaw or stuff like that to pump fuel in the carb!

Never saw anything like that. I wonder if it was a European requirement to be able to see the fluid level without cap removal. Much like they do now with the plastic resovoir.
Soooo, i appear to be the owner of a one of a kind custom made master cylinder!
Nice...
Sent through pm in case somebody wants to know
"Did your corvette come from mainland europe? possibly belgium? Laws there dictate that you should either be able to see the level through a semi transparent reservoir, have a level switch or add sight plugs to be able to see the level. This is what they do to a std. MC to get the car through a SVA type test"

Does anybody know if there is a lot of pressure built up inside the master cylinder when braking or if its just a tank to hold the fluid?
Im just scared that if i brake to hard the rubber covers are going to explode if there is to much pressure, they dont look very tough!
The rubber thing is just a gasket to keep outside dirt/water etc from entering the brake system. The actual "pressure" is in the chamber below it.

Im actually talking a bout the peepholes on the cylinder, if that went and i lost all liquid in the cylinder would i loose all breaking power or would i still have a bit of something for a while?

If all fluid leaked out sight plugs you could get spongy brakes after several stops due to air in lines. Should give you some notice though and not total loss all at once. mds...
If the rubber thing was to rip open for an unknown reason, would i lose all breaks instantly or would it be gradual?
C
If both of the rubber windows were to rip open leaving holes the size of the windows themselves, you will lose all braking power at once. It would not take too long to empty the MC with holes of that size.
It's very unlikely that both windows will burst all at once. To be safe, get an MC without the rubber windows and replace it soon.
