Seems very unlikely, I suppose its possible there might have been something available to racers only, but to the General Public - I doubt it very much.

as a side note GM performace is offereing the 2010 camaro in what they call BIW (Body in white) a completely stripped - nothing but the chassis option to racers only.

The Camaro BIW package will be a full body assembly structure available through GM Peformance Parts for $7,000 beginning in the first quarter of 2009. The chassis will not contain a VIN number, so there will be no means for street registration, as the body in white is reserved for race teams only. An application must be submitted to GM Performance Parts for approval before any transaction occurs. Follow the jump to see the press release in full

However, you can buy the engine without the car.

I wonder if they would have put a little plastic delete strip with "Corvette" written on it over the engine bay?

You could get the car with only primer.
If the car didn't have an engine it would have had to be pushed off the line and onto the transporter. I don't think the UAW would have allowed their workers to touch the cars that much.

Alan

IIRC, not even the COPO's sold to race shops came sans engine; the L88, ZL1, ZR1 & ZR2 RPO's being targeted to them.

I have one in the garage. It is not for sale, but everything has a price.

No. At the least, you had to take the base engine.

The closest thing I've seen was in 1975: A lot of the new cars coming off the GM assembly line during the Ford strike had parts intentionally left off by the sympathizing GM workers, and I saw a lot of new Vettes delivered with no engine mounts installed - so the engine was there, but not bolted in...

Very interesting. looks like i won 20$
i did'nt think so. it would have been nice to pick up the car at a much lower price and drop in what ever you had laying around. do you think it would have voided the new car warranty
Thanks all

If the option had been available, the car would not have been provided with title and could not be registered: With no engine, there could be no EPA certification, and without that, you get no registration and cannot operate it on the street. It would be the same as a "White Body," where it is sold as a car part and not as a car.
