Shame that in 90 years we may not have to many car folks, I'm 13 years old and I am the the only person who really likes cars in my grade.

Restored properly, that would be a real winner at the next "Barrett-Jackson" auction at Scottsdale. Does the guy know what he has??? (obviously not, from the way it is 'stored' and its condition)

Well.....I have been trying to tell him for years. I think only now is he realizing its value monetarily and to the car community as a whole.. Actually I get irritated seeing it sitting there, so I hope I get enough ammo to get it some attention and maybe even sold to someone like Jay Leno or back to Hurst, I dont really care, but it needs to be in good hands where it will be restored and appreciated....maybe I can get an invite to Lenos garage!

Just offer the guy 10 grand..."as is" and take it off his hands. Tell him you'll give him a ride when you get it done (just before you head off to Barrett-Jackson). If he doesn't know what he has, just take over!

I posted about this over on the Yenko site (which is really dedicated to all kinds of rare musclecars:

http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...gonew/1#UNREAD

It really would be great to see this cross an auction-block or find a home in a museum so that other people could know about this car and the engineering that went into it.

Truly stunning! Even though some will argue that it's not "original", it's still a very rare "original" custom, made by a legend! It's not every day you see something like this, and whether your FIL keeps it or sells it, it's neat just to be a part of it! I mean, DANG...even the hubcaps are the ones Hurst put on there!! How cool is that?! Thanks for sharing!!

It's funny how people are so quick to open their mouth and prove they're an a-hole by calling BS so quick.

Better idea.... Tell your FIL that you will take the car and get it restored--properly--and make arrangements to sell at Barrett-Jackson. When it does, you both split the {net} money equally. {Hey, you're doing all the real work. Right now he just has a $5K piece of junk!}

If you choose to go this route, draw up a legal contract with him so that neither of you has any qualms about the plan or the results. Get it notorized and each of you should have the right to run it by an attorney. When you call Russ Jackson...and when he gets excited about the prospect of having this car go across his stage..., ask him for references of marketing folks who can advise you on ways to present it 'on stage' [not to charge you BIG buck$ for orchestrating the sale itself]. Also ask him about waiving the bulk of the sales commission for having this item to utilize as FREE promo material for his shindig.

This project could be the project of a lifetime--if the car proves to be legitimate (which I think it is), instead of just being a timely clone. Best to you! And, keep us informed.

You know that is the most intrigueing suggestion yet. I have done a lot of "restorations" but actually this one would be relatively easy. I should have shown the seat covers that have been on there since he has had it, all of the chrome is in good shape, the laquer is shot and the engine is greasy, but every single part and sticker is there. My only issue is that , if not done properly I could be screwin it up, basically it needs done as close to 100 pnts as possible, actually knowing the outcome I could really get into this.....I will say this, my original story was skewed, basically trying to remember all the "crap" I had heard through the years, this whole process has cleared things up and gotten me excited about it again, I think I will just tell my wife to suggest they give it to us in leau of an inheritance!! Whatever happens I have been told I will be well taken care of when it brings any money, but restored it would be fun to take it to Barret, I am sure it would turn some heads and open a wallet or two! hmmmmmm Now you got me to thinkin....

Yea, I know, I was a little off, going by what we "thought" we knew. Forgive me for only going by what I was told. If you read back through the posts you will see a link to the article in Super Stock with pics where George Hurst built it, at the very least one that he built. The pics i posted match up well, right down to the one off, offset wheels for the added width. I read the original bill of sale, and my FIL bought it with under 2K on the odometer from a dealership in Cali. So I understand it was not a factory car, I have learned a lot this week about the possibilities of it, and hope to learn even more, this is fun...and eye opening...trust me I don't really want to drag it on, if I can get him excited I think what will happen will be to sell it as is to a collector or Hurst performance or someone, but however it turns out I hope it ends up restored somewhere so car guys can enjoy it, no matter where it was made....Thanks

Actually, I wouldn't spend a penny on restoring it, aside from replacing any dangerously-deteriorated rubber items. It appears to fit the all-so-desireable "survivor" (in a general, non-trademarked sense) category that everybody is crazy about these days, and any money invested in a restoration would *detract* from its desireability.

Clean it up, make it safe, dress up the documentation, and get in touch with the right auction-house to market it properly, and you could have a real interesting time with this car!
