68 442 front wheel drive
Let's see
.... I can leave it "as is" in 'survivor' category and limp into some Olds shows, turn heads, get pats on the back and hobble home in a beat-up old 442... OR ...I can take photos of the car to several reputable restoration outfits and make some sort of percentage deal with them (so that the owner and I will always clear a decent amount of profit--everything above a certain number, for sure), do no work, take it to Barrett-Jackson with FIL, have the time of our lives being wined-and-dined by Russ Barrett, hobnob with all the blue-noses and be buddies with my FIL for life.
I just can't seem to make up my mind....
Oh, one more thing... You will be 'buds' with your MIL, too.... for cleaning out the garage.

Well it finally came out of the garage Saturday night. Richard Truesdell who was the editor of Chevy Enthusiest and has many spreads in about every car mag to his credit came by my father in laws house and shot the car. First in the garage, then we rolled it out and got some in the driveway, both inside and out with picks of the engine as well. He tried to snap some under of the drivetrain, and if you know what you are looking at you can see the front half shafts from the transaxle. I have access to his album and will ask him if I can put some up here if anyone is interested. I just thought I would follow up on this as it is very exciting for us. We now know it was the only one built. It was built for George Hurst. 68 was not the flashiest of 442's but a 68 442 front wheel drive 455 is pretty cool, even covered with dust!
Im not gonna get into too much since it has already been hashed out, but it was a custom 442 that YES originally had a rear end, but Hurst rebuilt it with a blueprinted 455 and front wheel drive. Super Stock did a complete story with pics about it in 68. It now has no driveshaft tunnel. It is stretched a tad too. One of a kind. Why? Why did Hurst do a 4 wheel drive twin 455 HO 442 as well?? BECAUSE HE COULD! They did a few custom one off 442'3 but didn't do anything twice. The 442 is way lighter than a Toronado. So what is your actual question? Since I have the article and a proffesional photographer that has done pics, there is no longer any question as to its existence.
People do weird things all the time to cars. I wonder how it compared to the rear wheel drive in performance? Some serious torque steer I would think ! .........My first car at 16 was a '68 442 ( 400 4Speed ).
