i want to repaint my block with original orange chevy color. can someone tell me whats best to use. i would like a brush on if there is such a paint. also do i have to primer? if there is a good brush on where do i get it? i dont want spray because i want to keep it neat. engine is in car with everything on it which is why im looking for a brush on.
Hi Nutsy,
With out offering a suggesion please let me note that in my experience each manufacturer's Chevy Orange color DIFFERENT. Since you want to just do touch-up you may want to buy several brands and do some tests to see what matches the color you presently have.
The paint I use only comes in spray bombs... I spray it into a jar with a tight lid to use for brushed touch-ups.
Regards,
Alan
hi ALLAN. i really want to do entire block so matching wont matter. but with engine in car with everything on it i thought it would be neater to brush it on so i dont have overspray everywhere. i called local auto stores but they dont have a brush on. maybe theres no such thing. good idea on the touchup though. thanks, nutsy. oh, JUST READ MY ORIGINAL post and i did say touchup, sorry.
I used POR 15 Chevy Orange..it seems to be a very good durable paint.
It is oil based and is made to be brushed on.. I brushed most of mine on and there are no visible brush marks. It takes a long time to dry, b but levels out very well. It seems to take a few days of drying to reach maximum durabilty.

Can it be painted over without removing the paint that's currently on the block? What sort of prep's needed to paint over the existing paint?
I bought my POR 15 engine paint from Summit Racing..It was about $22 for the pint.
As far as prep, I wire brushed the engine and wiped it down with laquer thinner.
It goes on nice and thick, unlike the spray cans...
looks like por15 is the way to go. do you have to primer 1st if your down to metal?
You can by the POR15 engine paint kit. I just used it on my 65's 327 rebuild. I started with a clean block. The only thing I would suggest to do would be to upgrade to a better paint brush. The strands fall out of the ones in the kit. I put on several coats.
I bought it through an ebay dealer for $54.50 + shipping.
