Default Astro Ventilation questions

I am curious about the AV system,
Like my 69 vert that is coming home soon, it is a non factory AC car so the AV should work,

Which is more common, for the rear vents to work or be stuck or just getting no vacuum?

Where should the control wheels be set for it to work and is there a way to test it..IE apply vacuum to it's canister?

Does the system when working make much difference in air flow in the cockpit?

Many thanks

The control wheel needs to be set to cold for the flap to open.

And no, it makes very little difference open or closed.

There is a very small vacuum line from the HVAC controls that runs on top of the trans tunnel, back through the console to the luggage stop, behind the drivers seat and up the side of the inner wheel well along with the wiring harness that goes to the taillights.

Pull your carpet away, and halfway up the pillar the vacuum line will change from steel tube to hose at a splice. You could tap in there to another vacuum source in the engine bay to test the actuator without going through a lot of hassle. (Or you might be able to contort yourself over your seats and console and unplug it from the actuator, which is above the left wheel well.)

BTW, my acuator was fine, and the linkage moved freely. My problem was no vacuum...the steel line that ran along the tunnel was rusted out.

Hi Bats,
Just for your info... the Astro Ventilation was designed to take the place of the side-vent window. Smokers couldn't crack the side window in the rain because their shoulder would get wet... the shape of the roof and no drip rail.
Having fun?
Regards,
Alan
