I just purchased a 1969 Corvette it has some very unusual features. The color combo is Lemans blue with red interior (code 407). I pulled down the tank to see what the tank sticker said and it showed blue red. The sticker stated
color and trim over ride
export prep= 2
export tire tax
tax statustaxable
and at the very bottom of the sticker it said Portland Oregon, the dealer the car was sold to was in NJ has anyone ever seen this before
I bought it from 3rd owner who bought it in 1975 and never drove it in the winter. The last time the car was driven was 1994 it has 44k miles on it. The tank sticker is definetly coming apart but vry legible. I do not know how to post pictures but if I fiqure it out I will

What's fishy about it? The address in NJ is the export agent that GM used for overseas shipments.
Weird colour combinations are not unusual or unheard of, just weird.
Does that mean that this car would have been ordered by GM or would another dealer of ordered and GM would have hired the NJ agent to do the shipping arrangements. Thanks
So, you just pull down the tank and there sits a readable, 40 year old tank sticker?
Sounds fishy to me...
I found mine in about the same condition on my 75. Some Vettes were treated very well by their owners...driving them only 1,000 miles each year and keeping them in the garage. I think the unusual part is that it may have been shipped overseas and then returned...typical scenario for a purchase by someone in the US military.
Things to look for:
* Conversion from leaded fuel to unleaded...just a smaller filler nozzle inlet.
* Stickers inside the door jamb...perhaps in a different language.
* Emergency Road kit...triangle warning signs were mandatory in Europe.
Yes, there's a very similar thread going on the NCRS board right now.
Here's the thread from the NCRS board:
"I droped the gas tank on a 69 Corvette, T top, Base engine 350/300, 3 speed, Red Vinyl 407 interior with Lemans Blue exterior. This color combo is not listed and is a trim color override on the tank sticker. There are also RPOs for EXPORT PREP, EXPORT TIRE TAX, AND TAX STATUS TAXABLE. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK STICKER IT SAYS PORTLAND ORGON. The Zone and Dealer code show a dealer in New jersy, Mohenk Chevrolet in East Rutherford, NJ. I have never seen this can some educate me on this. I see Terry Michalis mentions export prep as being very rare in a blog. I assume it was a car being sent to Germany or ?? for a service man, probably wanted a red white and blue car, looks like the first Grand Sport edition. Having trouble resizing picture. Can email to have reviewed, or can someone tell me how to resize picture..
The RPO codes are as follow: 02ZD2AA TRIM AND COLOR OVER RIDE
RPO 02ZX2AA EXPORT PREP, RPO 02ZY5AA EXPORT TIRE TAX, 02ZY6AA TAX STATUS TAXABLE

Jim and I are friends when i mentioned to him I was looking for a 69 Vette to put my 69 ZL1 motor in he said he new of one and would check it out. A couple of days later he called me and said the guy wanted to sell it so I told him lets go look at it. It was supposed to be a red red car painted blue at one time, but when we went to look at it we realized it was a blue red car. I ended up buying it, when we pulled the tank down we were surprised to see what the tank sticker said. Jim said he was a NCRS member and would post it on the site to see if anybody else seen anything like that. A couple of days later I remember when I had my 69 L71 conv I joined this site so I ended up posting it here also.
My point is simply that it sounds fishy based on the information on the OP. I suppose with a mid 70's car, finding the tank sheet is a bit easier than on an early C3, but we've known about these for awhile now, and there's been too many "planted" tank sheets to hear of something like this that's this unusual. I will hang out and read some of the other posts, but that sums it up.
You would think if I was going to fake a car I would of gave it some options or at least a big block.
The yellow car with the green int did the build sheet say anything special about the paint

I don't follow your line of thought at all. There's nothing unusual about finding a legible tank sheet on an early C3 (or a '67 for that matter). I have mine off my '73 and most of it is still intact even though the PO drove it year round including the salt and snow of Montreal winters.
Export cars are not that rare. Cars with weird colour combos are not that rare.
