Does anyone have a picture or a description of the seat back spring and tilt locking mechanism? Mine is a late 1968, and we have just started restoration on it. The two seats have different spring mechanisms for the seat tilt lever, as well as the locking mechanism that locks the seat back to the seat. Knowing how this is supposed to be will help me put it back the way it should be. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!
Do you have the '68 assembly instruction manual (AIM)? The AIM shows the installation of the seat back release latches, bezels, buttons, etc. and lists the original part numbers.
The '68 seats had two different seat backs. First design early cars had the seat back release button near the bottom of the seat; second design seat backs moved the release button up on the seat back to be easier to reach. Otherwise, the seats are the same.
It sounds like you may have one first design seat back and one second design seat back.
Yes, I do have the AIM. I bought a copy a year ago, but for some reason never thought of looking in it for the seat innards.
Of the 4 torsion strings that should be there, I have one. The others are replaced by hand-altered tension springs strung in all sorts of weird positions.
My next question is, does anyone know where I can find these torsion springs? The suppliers I know of (Paragon, Rik's, etc) do not show them in their catalogs.
