That was gonna be my next question, do aftermarket mirrors from, ZIP or Willcox, come with a template? Did anybody get a template with a mirror they purchased?
I bought the mirror from Willcox and the template was included. I threw it away after I used it but someone who has one could just photocopy it and mail it off to you.
I have one on my '72. It was a dealer option or someone came out with one somwhere down the road. I don't think any C3 with chrome mirrors came from the factory with a righ side mirror (could be wrong).
My 73 did not come with one. I looked in a couple of Corvette books at the bookstore. Before 74, the Corvette did not come with a passenger side mirror,BUT, the mirror was made available to all dealers because some states were now requiring them. So depending on where the car was originally delivered to you may or may not have the extra mirror. But I will say this, the state of Ohkio requires that you have the mirror on the passenger side if the car originally had one, but besides that you must have at least 2 mirrors on the car at all times. And before I mounted the new mirror on the car(it was still in the box in the garage) I was out somewhere, it was hot, and the rear view mirror mounting bracket came off the windshield, I laid the mirror on the front floor, did my running, and got pulled over. The cop gave me a warning for no mirror, even tho it was in the car. He said that he would never have noticed if it was a clunker, but since it was a classic he noticed. Afterwards he said that he just made an excuse to look at the car, But I put the mirror on the next day. I'm glad I did, the car is hard enough to see around all sides. And when I back out of the garage, I have a hard enough time missing the other cars in the driveway.

There was a thread a week or two ago and someone posted the template, full size. Do a search. I printed it out and stuck it in my AIM for future use if I ever need it.
Being that there is no mounting plate on the pass door, you might want to fashion one, drill & tap it, and position it inside the door when you are ready to mount the mirror, and epoxy it in place when you bolt it all down. This will give you a much better solid mount.

I'm going to look for this thread. I think that's what I'm gonna do when I get ready to install a right side mirror on my Vette. Thanks for the info.
That mirror should have come with a paper template for the location of the holes in the door. The mount is via rubber well nuts as there is no metal bracket on the inside surface of the door.
OK, found the box. Yes it has the template and all the hardware. Will be very easy to install with the rubber/metal threaded nuts. Just getting up the courage to drill two 3/8" holes in a perfectly good door.
I know, I'll center punch the locations and then close my eyes while I drill.

Drill 1/8" holes first and remeasure center-to-center. If OK use the 3/8".
...1. Is this template in the 1968 AIM as well?...2. Will it work for for 77 and up "Sport Mirrors" ??...
No; not in the '68 AIM since there was no RH mirror for the '68s.
No; the chrome mirror template will not work for sport mirrors. The mirrors mount in the same place on the door, but sport mirrors require holes for studs and the flexible conduit. You can use the sport mirror base gasket for hole location.

Heh... of course there was no RH mirror for 1968 - silly me!!
(scribbles another thing on my '68 list of the strange)
To expand... when I go to replace the left one with a sport - will I have to fill anything in - or will I be able to cover it up with the gasket/mirror?
I wonder if there is a sport mirror template out there??
