I was going to let another start...but its time. My area has just been upgraded to blizzard conditions....expected snow fall totals can now exceed 36" per NOAA....Thats 3 feet of frick'en snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I intend to post some photo's as time goes bye, just to show others here what it is all about. That is all hinged upon the fact, that I do not lose power...so, lets see or hear from those on the right coast as this bad boy whips on thru.....have mercy on our souls and backs....
Hey Gregg, were in it together! They're calling for 30+" here in western Loudoun county Va as well. I wanted to get a snow blower but procastinated and they all sold out. I did get my generator running in case Vepco fails I can power the man cave!
I too will post some pics. Will be staying up and keeping my main paths and sat dish clear throughout the night.
I was supose to fly to Dullas today from S.Florida. I have family in Fairfax Va. Glad I cancelled, so much warmer here!!!! I'd love to see what I'm missing.
Gregg;
WE HAVE BEEN SITTING UP NORTH HERE WAITING FOR SOME SNOW THIS WINTER, HAVEN'T REALLY SEEN MUCH YET. MAYBE YOU GUYS CAN BLOW SOME OF THAT OUR WAY. iT'S A CANADIAN THING, YOU KNOW, EH!
Same here! The snow blower is all ready to go. Just open the garage door and it will cut a path right to the street. It is a tank tread type. Just put it in a lower gear and there is no stopping it! You guys be careful shoveling, don't over do it. Be safe.
Okay, I took 20 photo's and I only have three to share...as I am at a complete white out conditions. Photo's taken @ 11:30 P.M. 2/5/10.
Bare in mind, this is just the start of the storm....in the photo below, my bird bath is 23" from ground to btm edge....I will follow up with more in the morning....or 6-7 hours later. The tree in the photo is a Holly....I don't know if she will weather the storm...as I have knocked it down now twice. Going to bed in a few.....later.
Here is what we look like in Purcellville Va this morning. 6-8 more to come! Stay safe everyone!...but I will be out soon firing up the Avalanche and heading into to town...just cause!
Sorry about the shot thru the screen....but still in my jammies!
Here in my part of North Central PA/Southern Tier NY, we have dodged EVERY real snow that has come up the coast and from the west this season.
We are only a few hours in any direction from the center of this storm. I woke up this morning to not even a flake on the car, and there is just a dirty old inch or so on the ground, only where the sun can't quite melt it.
And it's BORING. 25 degrees, hazy sun or overcast with a flurry everyday since Thanksgiving. I'd take some snow just to liven things up a bit, and to put a nice insulating layer on my roof!
In any case, everyone affected be safe. Despite my grumblings about a lack of snow here, I do realize this is a bad one.
We were in Penn Yan area from Sunday through Wednesday. Got to see some nice Vettes while there. One original '79 L82, a '81 with some mods, and another early '80s with lots of work to be done.
Very little snow there. We had clear weather while driving there and again back to Indiana on Thursday. We got hammered late yesterday and overnight. Several inches and we had 30+ mph winds. So lots of drifting. I need to fire up our little tractor with a front loader to move some snow. I think I'd best put the chains on first.

I am from Watkins Glen, about 25 miles S of Penn Yan on 14A.
The only real snow I've seen this winter was out your way. Decided to take a trip out to SLC Utah right after Christmas. Missed the Iowa/Nebraska blizzard and waited till road websites showed I-80 reopened. I thought once that happened all would be clear by the time I got that far west, but I was wrong!
That storm had shifted north and began just dumping lake effect snow in Ohio and Indiana. Not knowing if it would just get worse as we continued, we turned around at South Bend and came home.
We're lucky down here in the Richmond area. The snow changed to rain last night, but it's back to snow now. We're forcast for 4-8" total from this whole thing. Keep in mind though, we had a foot of snow last Saturday, most of which was still on the ground. What the hell is this global warming thing?
Here in Covington, Virginia we have about 10.5" on the ground right now. Expecting another 3 or 4 inches today. Lot of sleet mixed in with it here, but north of here in Staunton and Verona they have about two feet. Really starting to wonder if that early April cruise in is going to happen this year.
I was watching a local news broadcast out of Philly last night. They had one of their weather babes broadcasting out in the snow. She's talking about expected accumuations when she says: We're expecting 1 to 2 feet of snow, but some areas might see as much as 24 inches!!!! I guess she gets paid to talk, not think.
I think I've got about 15 or 16 inches here in south Jersey right now, but it's a little hard to tell. With the wind blowing it around, it's 5" or 6" deep in some spots and close to 3 feet deep in others.
These shots were taken at 10 A.M.....In the foreground is the Holly that snapped in half last night, in the background hanging on my power wires are 40' Leyland Cypress tree's....I just knocked the wires clear...but I think those two tree's are history. The other shot of my driveway is as far as I got in 3 hour's...just trying to stay ahead, thats a 2005 GMC 4X4 under the snow....we have 8 more hours of snow fall predicted. Its picking up in intentsity and the winds are starting to pick up too....so the drifting effects will become enormous. So, its time for a beer or two and back at it later. I will send pictures again when its all said and done.
On a side note....I have a 4 year old Brittny...he has never been sick a day in his life...Thursday night he became ill...I can not find the problem...but he is bad off. I can not find a Vet to even talk to.... let alone get him to one at this time. I really due hope he pulls through this long enough to get him the proper care...this really does SUCK!
Hang in there you guys! I have to say we are missing this totally up here in northern Westchester County in New York, about 50 miles north of the city. We have cloudy sky's and some wind form the same storm system, but no snow. Usually we're the ones hit hard!
After the blizzard of 96 up here, my back was sore for 3 months after shoveling out of that one.
