Sales like these make affording this hobby not only easier but more exciting. Yes, the winning bid is way beyond reasonable, but the seller will get his next batch of parts now, and stimulate the economy. The guys who were bidding are obviously well heeled and the winner possibly got the last, long sought after bit for his Top Flight or Bowtie. It's a win-win to me; everybody got something they really wanted, and nobody got hurt along the way. Nobody would even flinch if the same part brought the same price at a charity auction.
I have a cap exactly like that only without the dents along the bottom of the rim. I think when it gets back from the Dichromate plater I need to put it up on ebay.
God bless NCRS standards. If you want you car to be "correct" I guess what ever it takes - it takes. I hope the winning bidder is satisfied with his purchase.
I think it's safe to say the seller is.
A gas cap like that...with a hole drilled through it...is worth, about two bits. It also does NOT have the red 'message' sticker at the bottom of the recess on the cap. Doesn't look too "original" to me.

Gee, and it only took 9 posts for somebody to blame the NCRS.
I can almost guarantee that no knowledgeable member would pay stupid money like that.

This cap is a 70 only. No red sticker or wording other than SEALED was used. I don't think they are reproduced which helps explain the high price. But $600? Seems a bit crazy.
