Default all chrome stingray emblem question

Has anyone removed the black paint off the fender emblems? Any thoughts or photos?

Hi B72,
It looks like a pretty straight foreward change.
I think I prefer the black base on the script because it makes the letters 'pop' off the body color a bit.
Regards,
Alan

I was hoping someone has tried it so I can see what it looks like.

An 'all-chrome' Stingray script emblem gives the car a 1950's look....too much CHROME... Once stripped, that emblem is all but impossible to repaint as it originally appeared. An alternative is to paint the entire emblem semi-flat black, then peel/scrape off the top surface [only] on the chrome script. I actually prefer that appearance to the original script paint scheme. I have a photo and can e-mail it to you if you PM me. (I have never figured out how to post a photo....regardless of how many times the instructions have been posted here. I guess I'm just high-technically challenged....) Then maybe you can post it so others can see the difference.

That's the one that was painted black and has the paint stripped off the top surface. Photo was with flash in the garage. Sorry for the poor quality.

The factory emblem only had black paint on the lip next to the body. If you bought an emblem over the counter from GM (like I did in 91) the black paint went up the sides of the letters and only left the top edge chrome. This is incorrect for the purists, what I did was take an x-acto knife #11 blade and removed the paint to make the emblem look like the factory. Paint comes off pretty easy due to being on top of chrome, and if you knick the base paint a black sharpee covers it up just fine....................

I believe the taller emblem is original and you are correct, the paint did not go up the side of the lettering. I like the look of the emblem with the lettering painted on the sides.
