I've gotten waves from 3 of the last 4 C5's I've seen. Has the price gone low enough for 'car guys' to be able to afford a C5? Still haven't got a wave from a C6.

Yup. Decent early C5s can be had for mid-high teens now. C5 Z06s will still cost ya. I've seen early base C6s in the high 20s-low 30s.
I really haven't had that much of a problem getting waves from other vettes...or thumbs up from alot of other cars.

The cost of a vehicle does NOT make someone less of a "car guy."
I have been riding Harleys since the 60's and I used to wave at anyone riding a motorcycle but when someone gives you a look like you are beneath them after waving I would make sure they saw my middle finger. Now days it does not matter if I am on my bike or in my 41 Chevy or the Vette I do not wave first at anyone but if they wave at me I will break my arm to let them know I have acknowledged their friendly jester, of course they may have to look in their mirror, but that is just me.
i usually get waves from most with the exception of the c6 guys. I have a couple of friends with C6 cars and i always tell them that their cars may be worth more but i still get more thumbs up from car guys and gals as well as little kids. there is just something about the C3.
Rich guys CAN be car guys too! By my definition, they just have to get their hands dirty by actually WORKING on their car(s) and not just paying somebody else to do it. Let's see, older cars = more work = more likely to be owned by a car guy. So my general theory is that the newer the car is, the less likely the owner is to work on it. The more expensive the car is, the more likely the owner will pay somebody else to work on it.
BTW, Leno is a very good example of a car guy...may not be a know-it-all mechanic, but he spends a lot of time in his Big Dog Garage. I am sure his hands get dirty on a regular basis.

If Leno gets his hands dirty then he's a car guy, otherwise he's simply a car COLLECTOR. Big difference!
Back to the topic, I personally wave to every vette I see, regardless of generation, regardless if they wave back.
We are also forgetting that the newer the vehicle the more likely your average shade tree guy cannot do much because the factory has been making them so only a certified mechanic, I mean technician, can do any work at all on them. Maybe the guys in the C5 on up are ashamed to wave because of their clean manicured hands.

My wife dropped me off to pick up my bike last week, she was in the Vette, and later she asked if I heard her turn the corner, I said no because the bike was running. She said she had 2 guys eyeing her and the car and said she just had to nail it to show em what it had and how it sounded!!(2.5 inch chambered duals) I just had to laugh, I think I have a car gal!! (and she looked hot in that car wearing her shades!)
I wave to them all regardless if I get a wave first or in return. If I dont get a return wave I just feel sorry for them that they "dont really get it".
When someone drives a Corvette it doesn't necessarily mean they are a Corvette person. Many people buy and drive the newer generations because it's a cool car and they like it, not because of the history. Keep in mind they may not know about the wave before you get all offended they didn't return the gesture. I waved when I had my C3 Vettes and will again once I get another, regardless of the generation

I don't think generation or cost or 'car guy' status has anything to do with it, it all depends on the PERSON. I have had plenty of C3 drivers not wave back. I do find it a little humorous though when the driver doesn't wave, but the passenger does.
You have to be thick skinned if you are going to get caught up in the wave because not everyone is going to wave . If your feelings get hurt easy , then you probably shouldn't wave.

I disagree with this. Why does getting your hands dirty make you a car guy? There are many ways to BE a car guy - doing hands on maintenance is just one of them.
