Default Electrical Problem

When I connect the positive cable to the battery some kind of relay energizes and the ammeter reads a draw of 40 amps, anyone has an idea what it could be. I have isolated the positive cable, the alternator, the voltage regulator, the horn relay, the lights and still have the draw.

It is a 1968, and have not checked the antenna relay, don't know that there is an alarm. I'm new to corvettes, just bought this one.

No power antenna on '68s unless a previous owner added them. If you have the optional alarm system, there will be a key cylinder in the rear panel to arm and disarm the alarm. There is a power window relay for the PW cars.

The assembley instruction manual (AIM) shows the installation of the power windows and alarm.

Alarm key [for optional anti-theft system] was on left front fender until '72.

40 Amps is a pretty hefty draw, no?

I might yank the fuses one by one to try and narrow the focus.

Do you have a wiring diagram to work with? I can dig up a link for you if not.

Bassackwards. In the rear panel until it moved to the fender.

have someone connect and disconnect the battery cable while you listen and search for the relay that is pulling in. If you can tell us where the relay is it would us help you.
