Thank you to all for the help on my recent thread about "gas smell".
I was also wondering if anyone has ideas on how to pull the fuses from a 78'? I'm hestitant because I don't want to break them, I bought a fuse kit with the plastic puller but it still seems very diffcult to get the puller around the fuse. If I break one how would I remove it? I'm trying to change the fuse for the horn before I approach changing the contact, etc?
With the puller on the fuse just give a little tug, I've never had one break. If one should break you could just push each end out of the tabs with a small screwdriver or even a key. If you are not sure if the fuse is bad check with an ohm meter or a test light before pulling the fuse.
It's easy to test without removing if you have a volt meter or test light.
With a volt meter:
Ground the negative lead.
Touch each end of the fuse with the positive lead.
If both ends show voltage the fuse is good
If one end shows voltage, the fuse is bad
If neither end shows voltage, there is some other problem
With a test light:
Attach the lead to a ground
Touch each end of the fuse with the probe.
If both ends light the test light, the fuse is good
If one end lights the test light, the fuse is bad
If neither end lights the test light, there is some other problem
Anytime you mess with the fuse block, pull one of the battery cables. All kinds of 'strange' accidents happen because folks are doing something "simple" on the fuse block...then all he!! breaks loose under there. Easy to create a high-powered short with all that juice right there.
