Default 68/327/4speed

Iam looking at my B-I-L's 68 vette, the car has 100k plus miles.
the car was repainted about 10 years ago, and well taken care of, paint still looks nice, but shows some shrinkage and small star cracks.

good tires and alum mags

interior is all there be worn, needs redone but is ok for a driver.
door glass has some chipped edges from no weather striping and rattling.

engine was pulled out about 2 years ago for a BB conversion, that never happened.car also has the chrome side pipes

car does have all orginal susp. and the breakes are leaking and need some attention.

ok. heres the deal , he has gotten an AC cobra and needs to move the car.

I know he wants me to have the car , and will ask me to make an offer.

Idon't wan t to try to low ball him , and want to be fair.

can I get a ball park opinion on the value.

5k ? 10? 15K ???

THE 327 IS orginal block but has later 73 heads on it, but did run ok. nothing fancy, original paint was sun flower orange , then red , and is now black laquer

thanks for any opinion

Hi, I just bought a 69, 350 4 speed out of CA. Has repaint, not factory colour for 69, but excellent condition, 500 mile old engine rebuild, few small issues, wipers not working but otherwise has had suspension bushes and shock, new exhaust, 70miles, not sure if its origional, paid $16K, no frame rust or scale at all.
Hope this helps, pics on in my pictures

So its got no motor in it now? The brakes are leaking and the interior needs a redo? Sounds like a good amount of work. If he is fishing for a price I would definitly low ball it and see where he is at. Without pictures of the car it is a tough thing to value but a non running car without the motor in it is not a desireable car. 5K and see what he says.

$5K. The car will need more work than you (and he) think. Pics would help.

the car does have the orginal engine , it's just out of the car.
paint is a nice 10 footer , up close you can find some flaws.

car could be running in a days time.

I'll see if I can get some pic's on easter sunday

Without pics its a guess.

Sounds like you'll need to replace calipers, suspension will need work, new interior.

When you're done with all the work you'll have a $12-15K car.

I bought a 68 327 original motor car about 3 years ago for 8k, but that car was complete and drivable. The main thing is that the seller put a price on it, and we went from there. He must have some idea what he wants for it, so ask him, get some pics, do some research on what the parts will cost you to replace. Get on your back with a flashlight and check for rust, especially around the rear wheel frame area. 68's have a lot of one year only parts. A part for a 69 might be $99.00, that same part could be $300.00 for a 68.(rear window latches come to mind). With these project cars there are soooo many things that can make one car worth 5k, and another identical looking car worth 10k.
Like the others have said......get some pics and post em. Interior, engine, engine bay, rear suspension, front suspension, and trim tag info.

The value will greatly depend on the original motor. You can get correct heads and accessories, but he stamped block that it came off the assembly line with is the most valuable part. If it is toast and not repairable, the value will drop, as it will always be a NOM car. I have what you are looking at, and it sounds like you need calipers, interior, and paint at some point in the near future. Calipers are easy enough, so is the carpet, and you may even do a nice job on seats if you spend a few hundred on new covers and foam. It will take some work, and the parts can be tough to find. You also have to refresh and install the engine. That usually leads to some "while I am at it" work, which adds up quick.! I would think $7,500 is a fair start. Pictures would sure help. Make sure the frame/birdcage is solid, and jump in. You may have to give more, but remember how much you will spend in time and parts to make it right.
