Bowers,

I was just looking more closely at your pics and it appears you are running the power cord and turn-on lead from the amp in the same direction you are running the RCA cables/speaker wire. Since you already have everything torn apart I would run the RCA cables to one side of the car and the power lines to the other. The power lines can emit power through the wires and cause some extra noise or hiss in the speakers. It's not a big change but it can make a difference.

i got it for something like 60 bucks on eBay, non gm reproduction. I am saving my original if i ever want to go back to stock. It fits better then the original haha.

ya it is a custom, i had to cut out the centre to make it fit. It is a standard DIN size, so its very easy. I masked it all off and used a combination of hack saw blade, dremel tool, and files for final fit. Some vendors sell pre cut ones if you have more money then time. They are around 180 bucks

i installed a large amp in the same location you did, and have never had an issue with heat.

100x4 @ 2OHM, 50x4 @ 4OHM, and 100x2 @ 2OHM.

my only real issue was that the clam shell for the old seats has a nice wear mark in it from the cooling fins.

Default well, its done.

crappy cell photos, going to have to get some better ones

i made those speaker boxes out of plywood, covered in padding and vinyl. Then i dyed them to match the interior leather. I am not 100% sure about them, but they will have to do as the new speakers will not fit in the factory locations. I have been thinking about doing something with the speaker grills, but am not sure yet.

EDIT
I realize now that i did not take any photos of the amp... will post later.

I believe that a kickin' sound system is merely a crutch for an inadequate exhaust note.

Nice install, I mounted my amp in the same place and haven't had any issues, at least not yet. I did opt for the 8 inch sub though, I don't think you'll be sorry if you add one!!

Very nice instal! My only suggestion would be to cover the rear speaker plywood mounts with matching carpet. I like the black speaker grills and would leave them as is. Just my 2c.
How does it sound?

i thought about that, but i didnt know where i could find matching carpet. I had some vinyl left over from some boat seats i did. So i used the white vinyl dyed to the correct color. I may change it to carpet if i find some matching stuff. Of course at that point i may also have to install a 8 inch sub you know "when i am at it"

Default Dash Speakers

Currently attempting to do something similar - but in the UK with limited parts access....

How did the top dash speakers look in the end? What speaker grills did you use?

How did you secure the rear speakers? What holds them in place. Can you give some details please. Not sure what to build here, i want to incorporate an 8" sub too.

I started out with a 600W amp installed on the back wall and got the bright idea to add a sub. I had to put the new amp laying flat. I still have a little bit of cleanup to deal with once I get everything finalized.

I wish I would have bought a five channel amp in the first place. That's on the list of things to come!

Do you have any pictures of how you mounted the 6x9 speaker plates?

My Carpenter buddy came over today after work. And measured up the rear of the car. We are going to re-create this setup. I will post pictures as we go with measurements.
