Default Carpet Questions - '69 Dimmer Switch

On a 69 80/20 Automatic carpet set, I noticed my drivers side carpet has no molded plastic to cover the dimmer switch pedal... My old carpet (repro) had like a 1" wide x 3-4" tall embedded molded plastic for the dimmer pedal. Did 69's just come with regular carpet over the dimmer switch and pedal?

Also - my new carpet set came with a grommet that is about 2.5" OD. and a 1" ID.... what is that for?

Hi KB,
The NCRS Tech Info Manual indicates that in 68 and most of 69 there was no vinyl dimmer pad. The pad appeared on cars built after mid-September 1969
Grommet? Your description sounds like what you would use to trim a hole if you wanted the dimmer siwtch to pass through the carpet.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan.... thanks.... hmmm... so wonder why Dr Rebuild wouldn't have the dimmer pad option.

OK - well - on the grommet - it looks indeed like a dimmer switch grommet - the only other thought I had was a grommet to go around tghe rear harnass as it passes out the left reat compartment area to the tail lights. But I thought that harness, grommet and the antenna were just hidden under the carpet.

Oh - I evidently got 9876366 from Dr Rebuild. It is Auto Accessories of America's # 452120 for sure.

My serial number is M07 - which if I have it right is August 7, 1969

Hi KB,
I agree with your build code decipher; so, 'probably' no dimmer pad on your Aug 69 built car.
I also agree that the rear lighting harness is under the carpet so no grommet back there.
Regards,
Alan

so - is the 'evolution like this....?

A. Dimmer Switch w/Grommet in carpet
B. Dimmer Switch w/pedal under carpet w/no grommet/plastic
C. Dimmer Switch w/pedal under carpet w/molded plastic

Maybe early 68's used the grommet before they added a pedal...

ahh - you snuck in a reply while I was typing....

so indeed - it is possible for the dimmer grommet???? to be early 68's then. Glad I got my serial number code correct and the rear harness routing w/ no grommet
