Default 69 Headrests

I understand that headrests were an option in this year. But my "black book" says that ALL cars had them even though they were an option. I have seen alot that I am looking at that do NOT have them....... Anyone know the facts?

All '69s had headrests. At one point they were a "mandatory option."

If you see a '69 without headrests, it's wrong. They were an option in '68.

Also, they were one piece molded design. Those neat little ones you see with seams on them are wrong.

So, the ones that have headrests as they make them now, with adjustable up and down movement, are NOT stock. ?? The ones that are one piece molded to the rest of the seat are original.

Hi plh,
All the 69 head-rests move up and down. I believe vb was referring to how the vinyl material was applied to the head-rest itself. They didn't have sewn seams like the seats have, they were molded.
Regards,
Alan

Alan has correctly translated my post.

An option in '68, should be in all '69s (Id be surprised if you found too many '69s without them... I'd assume some might have the slot cut in the seat cover where it was). Same design- all move up and down. Material should be molded onto the headrest- if you see seams on the headrest its an incorrect replacement.

Don't go for the seamed headrests. Besides not being correct that look like, well, bad.

Headrests were listed as an option in '69, and most 69's have them.....but not all. Having a '69 myself, I check out others at shows, etc. At Carlisle I met a few others with original cars without headrests. I'm thinking they were installed with '68 seats before the parts ran out and the new ones became available.

I take task with the NCRS on this point. I have seen '69s without head rests, all assembled before 1/1/69 when headrests became standard equipment.

The last I read, the NCRS holds all 69s had headrests because there was no block on the order form to check a deletion. Bizzoco says you could ask for no headrests prior to 1/1/69 and got a credit for the deletion.

Plh: this would help you. It's worth the price of a copy.
