So... the corvette battery is in the back... and the timing light has a cord that's about 4' too short. I don't know why this problem didn't occur to me before I tried to hook it up.
I don't have a spare battery around, but what I do have is a good length of Romex house wiring and a set of jumper cables. Would either of these work to get the power from the battery to the jumper cables?
Power supply wire to the output lug on back of the alternator; ground wire to the ground lug on the back of the alternator (has the black wire attached to it).

This is one of those topics that comes up pretty often. I snapped a pic of the way I connected my timing light when I had a stock style small block.
Keep in mind when you are doing this, I have reclocked my alternator to change the locations of the connections on the rear of the alternator but the idea is the same. Red lead on the positive and the black lead to any ground.
