Can anyone understand this ?
Tues morning, no one in the Walmart parking lot, still parked as far away as I could. Went in to pick up a prescription so paid in pharmacy, less that 3-4 minutes and come out and..well you can see for yourself.
There was plenty of parking at the bank too. It is hard for me to understand the brains of some people unless he liked my car and wanted to take a look at it or wanted to scope it out for break in or theft.
Feeling very positive today.
He did park between the lines and did keep his distance.
As you said maybe he just wanted to get a closer look.
Maybe he owns a Corvette and thought by parking next to you he would be protecting your car from some idiot parking there and swinging a big truck door into it.
Hows that for some positive thinking, I have more but you probably get the idea.
I had that happen at a Dry Cleaner and could barely get into my car. When I had a chance to take a look at it my rear fender flair had a 6 inch split where it had been hit. Unbelievable what people will do.
I share your frustration, however, let's look at this realistically...You're WAY over to the right of the spot you chose. The "s-box" is somewhat to the left of center, in their chosen spot. There's actually quite a bit of room between the cars. The odds are 99.99999% that the driver got out of the drivers side door, and quite possibly, nobody got out of the passenger side.
The "acid test".....were there any marks on your car? If not, the "s-box" is a buffer zone.......

How deep a footprint did the offender's car door have after you left????
i know the feeling, last week end i drove my wife to the shopping centre, i parked away from everyone else, but i stayed in my vette whilst she went shopping, within minutes of doing so, i had someone park along side me, and i mean right along side me,there was hardly any room to open the door, i yelled out to them to wait whilst i moved my vette!!!
I too do not understand peoples mentality, why squeeze along side someone when there are plenty of spots everywhere!!!
so i did the next best thing, i took up 2 spots!!!

That could have been me!
I still park my(still very nice)98 Malibu away from the normal parking lot riff raff and would have had no problem parking near yours just to check it out.
Even my wife has strict orders to park her 2010 Malibu out of harms way.
Some of us like to keep our daily drivers nice, too. Even 4 door old fogey cars

I occasionally do exactly that with my DD. Also, I sometimes fly wingman in traffic to keep idiot "bogies" off of their six...
At least you didn't take up two spots and parked on an angle. If you did, maybe he would have done so as well...you never know...and maybe he just liked being beside a "REALLY NICE CORVETTE" and took pictures as well for his album too. p.s. I do the same thing, as far away as possible...

When my 70 was still white, my wife and I took it to Walmart and I parked it out away from everyone just like Wayne did. When I came out there were two nice round quarter sized places in the drivers side door where a buggy had rammed into the side of the door. Talk about a pizzer. Even though, I still park my corvette or whatever I am driving away from everyone just so dillwood does not ding my doors again.
