Here's a '72, but 71 is similar. Chrome with silver-gray accents. Argent silver ralley wheel paint may be a close match.

Corvette Central shows this one.

Gloss Black with chrome edges.

I have a 71 & 72
Early 71's had clear light covers, Some late have amber
All 72's had amber.

Just like the pic Easy Mike sent is correct.
Fiber opt. not sure.
72's have a drain wick

The correct color is close to a "cast iron" grey with a little texture in it. A dark silver or pewter color would be a decent alternative. It was not black or silver. There are several spray paint manufacturers who produce paint with the "cast iron" color.

When I had my front bumper and bumperettes I guess you would call them that run down each side of the license plate re-chromed I used "spray gray" part number 1258Z from Eastwood and was a perfect match to my grills. Can says it restores new cast iron look.

Hi,
Another possibility is the Zinc Phosphate that Eastwood and a few other vendors sell. It is a bit darker than Cast Blast, has some texture, and a bit of glitter.
I believe that the 'race track' that runs around the 3 sides of the parking light part of the grill was painted semi-gloss/semi-flat black. None of the chrome was exposed on the 'fins' of the first row of egg crates from the bottom. That's where the black 'race track' ends too.
Regards,
Alan

hey

the assembly line originals were a dark gray color. You can use a dark metalic gray to achieve this look plus it have the appearance of the "sandy/rough" feel that the factory grills had.

I remember a post on the on the NCRS TDB and someone said the paint actually had an additive in it to give the "rough" feel/look.

I did this to mine and used base and a satin clear.

I was thinking the OP was referring to the CENTER front grill...My 72 was cast gray but had NO chrome (silver) edges....

Just in case that is the "front grill" he is referring to.
