Well folks, it's confirmed.
Due to the sagging economy,Bubba doesn't just work on old Chevy's anymore.
He's diversified into the outboard motor business.
In the course of my real job, I just got done with the lower unit of a 120hp Force outboard. Bubba had clearly been there before me.
The cam follower for the shift thingie was in backwards, the 3 little ball bearings were missing, and get this - instead of 90wt gear lube in there, I found blue 2-cycle oil!! (Bubba must have used it because it said "for outboards" on the bottle.)
So be afraid people.... be very afraid.

Bubba can work in your favor sometime. I had a buddy years back that wanted to buy a boat from a so called marina with twin 350 motors. I went and looked at it with him and they motors wouldn't start. In talking with the owners sons I learned that they did a tune up and I got the details. Talked to my buddy on the side and he went back and bought the boat getting a few grand knocked off due to motors not running. I went down bought 2 rotors replaced the old ones, the sons said they didn't look bad so they just filed off the carbon deposits, Go figure.
The last VW I ever bought was a '68 Beetle that the guy was selling for parts. I went to see it, the paint was bad, and it had some common problems, but the car didn't look too bad, more like an $800-$1000 driver than a parts car. So I gently asked why he had advertised "parts car", and he said "the starter motor died, so I took it to my mechanic who said that it is impossible to change the starter motors in these cars, so I just have to sell it for parts." I shrugged and gave him $250 cash and he gave me the title. The next day, my buddy drove me over there with the new plates, a floor jack, a used starter motor that we knew was good, and a used battery we knew was good. The look on the guy's face 20 minutes later when I started that car and drove it away was priceless.
I think a lot of us are Closet Bubbas ! Bubba is pretty clever ( some of them ) and would be a good mechanic if he had plenty of money...........he gets his car home and keeps it running.
Bubba came into my parts store many years ago. He wanted oversize rod bearings to repair the spun rod bearing in the Honda he was selling. I explained that to fix it right, he'd have to replace the crank, rod and bearings, otherwise, it's just not going to last. He tried a 2 or 3 under bearing and it didn't work out too well. About two weeks later he told me he "fixed" it, he would only tell me the "fix" if I promised not to tell...yeah, yeah, yeah, okay... he soaked an old leather belt in oil, wrapped it around the rod journal, cut it, and it seemed to run just fine. I had my doubts...about two weeks later, my young, green (16 or 17 years old)employee told me he just gave bubba a deposit on Bubba's Honda!!! I told "Paul", DON"T BUY THAT CAR!!!" I promised Bubba I wouldn't tell anyone what he did, just don't buy it"... A few days later "Paul" told me Bubba's old car was smoking REAL bad...a true story...

Back in High school I had a good friend who’s father was a medical doctor a very intelligent well respected man in his field. I got a call one Sunday afternoon from my friend saying his father had been working on his brother’s VW bug and now it would not start he asked would I come over and take a look at it. I showed up within the hour driving my 1973 Z-28 the car sported a L-88 hood and the sound of the modestly yet respectfully built 350 singing through the headers really got his father attention (the hot rod bug was biting at the doc.) I ask what the problem was and he explained that he had just installed new plugs and wires and that was it and now it would not start. He went on to explain that “everything was right but something was wrong. He was asking me if he should pull the engine . I am not really not sure what he planned on doing with it after it was out but that was his next step. I ask if it could take a look he anxiously said yes I guess a second opinion is pretty common in the medical field. A quick look at his repair manual and the engine reveled that two of the wires where running to the incorrect plugs. Making the correction at the distributor the car started and ran . He look to me as if I had just given life to the dead. He then asked me to take a look at his new BMW he wanted me to install headers on it. I will stop here for now but wanted to share with you all that Bubba’s can come from all walks of life.
Bubba told me he once hooked a 4Speed transmission up to the 3Speed on the column............He had to hook up Reverse with a seperate lever. It worked !
