Seems my family wasn't impressed so I thought I'd share the day with like minded people;
Couldn't rig it to the center of gravity. Used the cherry picker on the radiator support to keep it level.
I used a plumb bob from one of the body mounting holes to reference alignment as I lowered it.
Notice cherry picker.
Accomplished this alone, no help. Besides Jake, my dog. Have about 29 months invested since the start. No estimate of time to completion.
Thanks to Noland Adams for loaning me his workbook on body drop proceedures.
looks good. Very encouraging to me. I am trying to get my 68 back on the road and like your endeavor it is a solo effort. The family doesn't want to here about it much less help.
Looks good Blain! Putting the body back on is a major milestone in any resto
I remember the day we did my 68, there were only two of us, hard to imagine what it would have been like doing that myself! In fact, we did it in my buddy's shop in Mt Akum, outside of Plymouth, not far from you
Your sons really missed out on this one - too bad. I loved working on cars with my old man, except for the time I let the bench seat slip down on his hand .
Keep us posted. It energizes those of us still working on our frame-offs.
Blain, that's great. As 682XLR8 said the body drop is a major milestone. I had my front clip off when I dropped the body by myself, snapping pictures as I went. I think your motivation will go up now as it looks like a car again. 29 months, I'm at 58 months and just about done..
Hi Blain,
NICE pictures!
Don't worry about the length of time that's gone past... it's ALL about the journey.
While it was going on I mostly just got a shake of the head... now I mostly get "I think it smells funny in here"!
Regards,
Alan
It never ceases to amaze me what one man can accomplish, when he puts his mind to it. Kudos' to you my friend for taking the initiative. Good luck with the completion of the car.
Thanks for the pix. looks like i'll be dropping mine solo too. not sure if i'll have enough clearance in my garage though. have 4X 2X10 beams in the roof to hang from, figure i'll set up a block and tackle of some sort. anyone have one cheap??? thanks again for the pix.
I'm not 'taking issue'....just curious. Why did you not have the body painted before you set it on the chassis? Isn't the painting going to just mess up all the work you did on the chassis?
In any event, congrats!! That is a big part of the work now completed.
I am deciding if I want to go this route myself. It's only a '77 , I have no birdcage rust and only surface rust on the undercarriage, but knowing that everything is done would give me that better "peace of mind" feeling.
It would also allow better access to the suspension and motor for repair....talk me out of it!
Great work, Blain. It's nice to have a select audience witnessing (beside Jake) but the feeling of accomplishment is greater knowing it is a solo effort done to the best of your ability.
Congrats and keep up the fine work. Thanks for sharing.
