Default Power lock question

Well my power locks work great when the car is running. When the car is off they are pretty sluggish, as well as my power windows and other electrical things. That makes me assume that my lead from the battery to the fuse box is cracked somewhere. The volts at the fuse box are 10 off 14.5 running. So obviously a short. My real question, is there a spot prone to wearing? Some place I should look first before taking everything apart? I really don't want to pull the seats tear the console out and investigate if I don't have to.

What year Vette? Need a little more info in your profile. Does the battery go dead if left to sit overnight? Is the battery good? Easy place to start is the fuse box. Pull one fuse at a time until the volts at the fuse box gets back to battery voltage. Then go from there.

It is a 79, I have a red top optima, It can sit for months and still starts the car without jumping. So the battery is good. That sounds like a good place to start, hopefully I can find a bad wire that doesn't run through the center consol. My guess is still the hot wire powering the fuse box, hopefully I am wrong. Thanks for the advice

I wouldn't bet on a short first. Is your battery testing at 12 and the circuit at 10? I think a normal battery has 10-12 volts. Going up to 14 means your alternator works. Look for dirty connectors. Start at the battery and then all the battery grounds. Take the fuse for that circuit out and hit it with a brass brush. I had my car towed for a fuse that looked good but had just a little corrosion on it.

I get 14 on the fuse pannel when the car is running, and 10 on the fuse pannel when it is off. I havent checked the battery folatge yet, but will tomarrow. It should be doing 12 volts if it good. I will check for corosion too, good tip. Now I just need to relocate the fuse box so I dont have to be twisted up like a pretzel on my back with the wheel in my gut and my legs hanging out the door...fun times.
