Thank you guys!

Since all I drove before are FI cars I don't know much about carbureted motors. What is the best way to start from cold? Should I pump the gas pedal before I crank, or crank and give it a pump at the same time? Should I crank for more than a few seconds?

Here is another pic!

Welcome to the Forum...if the carb is set up good you should only have to give a a couple of pumps & turn the key...some time when you do not drive it for a while you may have to crank it over a bit to get fuel to the carb then same thing a couple of pumps & away ya go! Enjoy it Corvettes are fun!

Nice 80!
with my 80 I will give the pedal three short pumps, then turn the key and she normally roars to life with no problem.

And welcome to CF.

Mike.

Welcome to the forum. You'll love it here and a great bunch of people. These cars have a mind of their own and can be tempermental too. My 69 requires no pedal pumps at all before starting. My 71 has to have 1 pump (not two or it will flood) in the summer and 2 in the winter (when I start it monthly). Sounds strange but thats the way it works with the ones I have. Welcome again and nice car!!!

Thanks once again.

I usually give it 2-4 pumps. I found out that a pump while i crank the motor works better. Is that ok to do?

The previous owned rebuild the carburetor, and he said it still need to be broken in. Maybe after that it will get easier to start.

As you can see from all the posts how your car will start the best will depend on the condition of the carburator and choke. When everything in the carb and choke is perfect and the engine is cold, you should press the gas pedal to the floor once to close the choke and then crank the engine. If everything (carb, choke, timing, sparkplugs etc) is in good condition and the car has been started within the last few days, the car will start within a few revolutions. If the engine is still warm from being run within the last hour or so, it should start by simply cranking it.

You will learn what it likes best before too long.

mine is an 80 as well - gota love those 80's !

i pump mine 4 times to the floor & come up slow on the 4th pump to set the choke -turn key- it fires immediately

after its warm, if ya turn it off, don't pump to start, just turn key

Pete.
