Just got a 80 L48 Auto w/58xxx miles, all original! This is my first old car, so I don't know much. Actually i don't know anything. I am here to learn. Ill probably be asking questions later for now i just wanted to say hi.
Since all I drove before are FI cars I don't know much about carbureted motors. What is the best way to start from cold? Should I pump the gas pedal before I crank, or crank and give it a pump at the same time? Should I crank for more than a few seconds?

Welcome to the Forum...if the carb is set up good you should only have to give a a couple of pumps & turn the key...some time when you do not drive it for a while you may have to crank it over a bit to get fuel to the carb then same thing a couple of pumps & away ya go! Enjoy it Corvettes are fun!
Welcome to the forum! There's a good bunch of guys here that can help you with almost any corvette question you can come up with, so you came to the right place! Very nice ride by the way. Again, welcome.
Welcome to the forum. You'll love it here and a great bunch of people. These cars have a mind of their own and can be tempermental too. My 69 requires no pedal pumps at all before starting. My 71 has to have 1 pump (not two or it will flood) in the summer and 2 in the winter (when I start it monthly). Sounds strange but thats the way it works with the ones I have. Welcome again and nice car!!!
As you can see from all the posts how your car will start the best will depend on the condition of the carburator and choke. When everything in the carb and choke is perfect and the engine is cold, you should press the gas pedal to the floor once to close the choke and then crank the engine. If everything (carb, choke, timing, sparkplugs etc) is in good condition and the car has been started within the last few days, the car will start within a few revolutions. If the engine is still warm from being run within the last hour or so, it should start by simply cranking it.
You will learn what it likes best before too long.
