What year? There are many LT-1 specific parts, some not easy to see, that will tell you right away, besides the block codes.
These are from the black book.
Block codes for 1970-CTK,CTR,CTU,CTV
1971-CGY,CGZ(ZR-1)
1972-CKY, CKZ(ZR-1), CRS(interesting this code has auto tranny code though I thought you could not get an auto w/LT-1 option.), CRT
I'm sure more LT-1 owners will chime in.

I would have done this research BEFORE buying the car ........
I sure hope you don't find out any bad news, it's a bit too late now.

I'm sorry. The car is a 71 Brands Hatch Green, dark green interior. But where do I find this information? Is there a plate in an easy place to see?

Nothing in the VIN will identify the original engine or whether the car is an actual LT-1.

You will find two numbers stamped on the pad on the block at the front of the right head. One stamp will identify the engine; the second stamp will be the VIN derivitive of the car the engine was originally installed in.

No AIR or AC on this particular car making the pad easier to see and read.

VIN plate is on the driver's windshield post and readable from outside the car.

Trim Tag is on the driver's door hinge post and will list the code for original paint and interior trim color. Time/Build code will be in the upper right hand corner of the tag and will show an alpha character for the month of assembly and a two digit number for the day of the month.

There was a strike in the fall of 1970 affecting 1971 model year production. No cars were built during October, 1970 and only a few in late November.

1971 LT-1 is relatively rare, so more valuable than a base engine car. That is why there is a financial incentive to take a base engine car and make it look like an LT-1. There are lots of fakes out there.

Beginning with the 1972 model year, corvettes included engine identifying information in the vin, so a 1972 LT-1 can be identified by the vin, but not a 1971.

Post some close up pics of the stamp pad on the engine and engine compartment itself.

Hi Dax,

Default Car

Hi Alan
This is for a car I purchased last week. I got the following numbers off of the engine.

C11S105528 V1210CGZ

From trim tag
Trim 423 983 Paint

VIN
194371S105538

I think this is a real LT1 but if I'm wrong please let me know. Thanks.

CGZ is LT-1 Manual according to the black book. The numbers you show here 105528 engine, & 105538 VIN. Recheck the 2 & 3 or is this a typeo?
Built in December 70.
Trim 423 983 Paint
Dark green int & Brands Hatch green ext.

The numbers are right, but without having it looked at by someone that knows what a true stamp pad looks like, it could still be a re-stamp.

V1210CGZ = "V" engine plant, where all small block Corvette engines are built. "1210" is the engine build date; "12" for Dec., "10" is the tenth day of the month. "CGZ" is the engine suffix code for a 1971 LT-1.

Trim 423 is Dark Green vinyl. Paint 983 is Brands Hatch Green.

From the VIN, the car is a coupe (the 67 in the VIN) and it was the 5,538 (105538) 1971 built. It would have been built about the about the first week of Jan. 71, which fits nicely with the 12-10 build date of the engine.

I think you have a winner, but check the VIN stamp/tag again. C11S105528 and 194371S105538 do not match.

VIN & trim tag info in the driver's side door jam. Pics also help of the stamped pad on the engine and VIN on the wind shield pillar.
