Default 68' radiator core support question

i am restoring a BB 68 coupe. i have a radiator core support (in great condition) that came with the car. i just bought a radiator for the car and am not sure how the radiator mounts. i haven't been able to find a decent pic of the 68 core support, and apparently they are unique since corvette central doesn't even list one available.

do the 68' BB supports have the little cradle brackets at the bottom for the radiator to sit in. if so, mine are missing or broken off.

does anyone have any pics of the correct core support?

thanks, rick

i'll try to post a pic of my support, but i'm assuming at this point that mine is correct, but just missing some lower brackets. does anyone sell these brackets to weld on and restore the support?

Purchase the '68 assembly instruction manual (AIM); it has assembly diagrams of the radiator support, the brackets, cushions, shims, etc, and lists the original part numbers.

The support is one year only and has two lower brackets for the radiator. Check the aftermarket providers. The upper brackets are available. lowers might be available.

Hi Rick,
The 71 AIM shows a bb core support SIMILAR to yours.
On that one there are 2 brackets that are part of the support on the bottom where yours has the 'stubs', and 2 brackets that bolt into the top of the support after the radiator has been slipped in place.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

NICE body dolly!

thanks alan! yeah, i know i am missing the lower U-shaped cradle brackets for the radiator. looks like someone hacked mine off for SOME DAMN REASON! LOL

someone told me that the brackets on the 68 are unique, and i can't find anyone who sells them. i have seen earlier and later replacements but no 68'. i would like to know what is so different about them, and also wonder if i can just order the 67' style and weld them in place. i'm not building an NCRS or bloomington car, so if they are functionally correct, i would be happy. does anyone know? thanks, Rick

Hi Rick,
I looked at the 67 bb upper and lower brackets in the 'Long Island Corvette Supply' catalogue and they LOOK like the pictures of the 68 core support brackets in the Vet Vues 68-72 Fact Book 68 bb pictures.
Worth a try?
Regards,
Alan
