I'm detailing my engine compartment on my 68 roadster, 327/300, auto, ac.
What is the correct color/finish for the following?:
1. Ignition coil bracket and bolts to intake manifold
2. Vacuum fitting in intake manifold (behind carb)
3. Oil filler tube and cap
4. Distributor hold down clamp and bolt
Hi fw,
I'll go a little further than Mike,
The coil bracket was a dull silver cadmium or zinc. The inner bolt was in place when the engine was painted so is orange, the outer bolt is usually cadmium plated/unpainted.
I believe the vac. fitting was cad or zinc plated/unpainted
I believe that on 68s the distributor hold down and bolt was painted orange.
The NCRS 68-69 TECHNICAL INFORMATION MANUAL is WELL worth the money along with the Vet Vues FACT BOOK Mike mentions.
Regards,
Alan

They're both on my list of "to buy" items. Just bought the TIM/Judging guide and Nolan Adams' book for my 63, so I'll need to spring for the manual for my 68 next.

Just be aware that the dist. hold down clamp IS the ground path for the distributor. So that clamp must make a solid electrical connection to both the block and the distributor casting. The '****' on the underside of the clamp are meant to burrow through the engine paint when torqued. (I'd say about 1 in 100 Corvette owners know that little tidbit...but it probably 'bites' a lot more of them.)
